Recap by phillip woo

Dan Excel enjoyed the box-seat run, straightened three deep, poked his head in front from Helene Spirit at the 100m and kept on gamely in a ding-dong battle with that one for an overdue win with money coming on late. Helene Spirit was granted an uncontested lead, cornered just over a length on top and kept up a brave gallop to make it a thriller at long odds. He was suited by the pattern of the track. Packing Whiz was running on nicely 50m out. Favourite Glorious Days settled midfield and on the rails, shifted into the clear four deep at the 350m and kept on one-paced. Gold-Fun bided his time at the rear and one off the rails, swung the final bend widest out and ran on steadily. King Mufhasa stalked the speed and was gone at the 350m. Xtension enjoyed a nice run in fifth and one off the rails, was off the bridle at the 600m, cornered in five wide and only held his ground. Pure Champion came up flat after covering ground in midfield.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight: (590)-THE CHAMPIONS MILE - Group One - 1600Metres

ADMIRATION was withdrawn on 3.5.13 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore).

Before being allowed to race again, ADMIRATION will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

GOLD-FUN began awkwardly.

PENITENT was slow to begin.

From the outside barrier, PACKING WHIZ was taken across behind runners shortly after the start.

Near the 700 Metres, GLORIOUS DAYS momentarily raced tight inside XTENSION which shifted in.

PURE CHAMPION travelled wide and without cover throughout the race and then hung out rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight.

Approaching the 200 Metres, PENITENT momentarily raced in restricted room between PURE CHAMPION which continued to hang out and GOLD-FUN which got its head on the side and shifted in under pressure.

A veterinary inspection of KING MUFHASA including an endoscopic examination immediately following the race showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea and was also found to be lame in its left front leg.

GLORIOUS DAYS, DAN EXCEL and HELENE SPIRIT were sent for sampling.
