Recap by phillip woo

Firming late to jump second favourite, Sea The Pearls settled midfield and one off the rails, swung the final bend with two wider out and finished up nicely to get up in the final 10m for a first win at his 21 st start. Royal Partner bided his time fourth from the rear and one off the rails, cornered in three-to-four deep and quickened nicely to snare second from My Goal in the final few metres. My Goal was caught four deep while hard pressed to eventually clear to the rails for the lead at the 500m, cornered nearly two lengths on top and grudgingly gave way late. Mi Savvy settled fourth and one off the rails, swung the final bend with three wider out and ran on steadily to just miss a placing. Supreme Essence kept plugging away without menacing with every chance. Yue Lue Treasure made his run in midfield and three deep with some cover, cornered in with one wider out and was getting going late without menacing. Rainbow Fighter bided his time third from the rear and three deep, swung the final bend widest out and was running on late without threatening. Favourite Windicator Power was jostled about while settling into a position one off the rails in second, loomed a winning chance three deep at the 200m and blew up in the last 100m.

Racing Incident Report

Race Four: (614)-SAI WAN HO HANDICAP - Class 3 (Special Conditions) - 1200Metres

After being loaded, FUJIAN SPIRIT became very fractious and got out under the front gates.

In this incident, M L Yeung was dislodged from FUJIAN SPIRIT.

Acting on a report from the Veterinary Officer that FUJIAN SPIRIT was not suitable to race, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of the horse.

Before being allowed to race again, FUJIAN SPIRIT will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

After the race, M L Yeung was examined by the Clubs doctors and passed fit to fulfil his remaining riding engagements.

MI SAVVY began awkwardly.

CROATIA shifted in at the start and bumped SUPER PISTACHIO and as a result shifted out abruptly and made contact with ROYAL PARTNER, causing both those horses to become badly unbalanced.

SPLENDID VICTORY was taken across behind runners shortly after the start.

Making the first turn after the 1000 Metres, RAINBOW FIGHTER got its head up and proved difficult to settle when awkwardly placed close to the heels of YUE LU TREASURE.

Then near the 600 Metres, RAINBOW FIGHTER, which was continuing to prove difficult to settle, became unbalanced and shifted out after bumping ROYAL PARTNER D Whyte (MY GOAL) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 850 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of WINDICATOR POWER, causing that horse to be taken in across the rightful running of MI SAVVY which as a result was checked and lost the running to which it was rightfully entitled and in turn shifted in and crowded SUPREME ESSENCE.

D Whyte was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Sunday, 9 June 2013 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).

The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Sunday, 2 June 2013.

In addition, D Whyte was fined $80,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating 2 further racedays.

After the 700 Metres, YUE LU TREASURE was left racing wide and without cover.

Approaching the 600 Metres, SPLENDID VICTORY got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of ROYAL PARTNER.

Making the turn after the 600 Metres, SUPER PISTACHIO got its head on the side, shifted in, made contact with the running rail and became unbalanced.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of WINDICATOR POWER, Z Purton stated that when left racing in a three wide position in the early stages, he elected to continue on in a forward position as the pace of the race was not strong.

He said after meeting some interference near the 850 Metres he was able to shift in to race on the rail approaching the 700 Metres.

He said WINDICATOR POWER then travelled strongly and passing the 500 Metres he shifted to the outside of MY GOAL into clear running.

He said WINDICATOR POWER continued to travel well until rounding the Home Turn at which time he placed the horse under pressure.

He added WINDICATOR POWER quickened for a short distance, however, soon came under pressure and despite being ridden out in the Straight was disappointing in the manner in which it failed to finish off its race.

A veterinary inspection of WINDICATOR POWER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that MY GOAL had lost its left front plate and that RAINBOW FIGHTER had lost its right front plate.
