Recap by phillip woo

Let's Goal settled midfield and on the rails, straightened three deep and responded under the right whip to take control 60m out for the win. Punted late, Leeli's Star enjoyed the box-seat run, assumed the front along the fence at the 100m and couldn't hold the winner. He was suited by the wet going. Flying In bided his time fourth from the rear and one off the rails, rounded the final bend six deep and ran on steadily to grab a placing 100m out. Royal Knight peeled into the clear five deep upon straightening and was doing his best work late to snare fourth. Little Rainforest showed natural pace to lead from gate 10, was headed to his outside by Good Luck Win at the 700m, reclaimed the front soon after straightening and was plodding 100m out. Specked late, Good Luck Win was never on the track while rolling to test the leader at the 700m, straightened three deep in second and kept on evenly over the final 150m. Heart Wood eventually settled one-out, one-back in the run, straightened four deep and was yielding ground 150m out with every chance. Geronimo Meadow swung the final bend with one wider out and only passed stalling runners. Favourite Man And Ming was a handy fifth and one off the rails, swung the final bend outside Flying In and was struggling 200m out.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three: (631)-LAM TSUEN RIVER HANDICAP (Sec1) - Class 4 - 1650Metres

ROYAL KNIGHT began awkwardly and shifted out towards the heels of LETS GOAL.

Despite being vigorously ridden along in the early stages, GOOD LUCK WIN and GOLDEN OSMANTHUS were slow to muster speed.

GOOD LUCK WIN travelled wide and without cover until after the 800 Metres at which time the horse was allowed to stride forward to race outside the lead.

Passing the 300 Metres, GOLDEN OSMANTHUS, which was giving ground, shifted in and bumped GOLDEN WIDE.

For a short distance passing the 150 Metres, ROYAL KNIGHT raced tight between HEART WOOD and GOOD LUCK WIN which got its head on the side and shifted out and away from LETS GOAL.

For the major part of the race, GOLDEN OSMANTHUS travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground.

The performance of PENNY LANE, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, PENNY LANE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that the riding of B Prebble (LITTLE RAINFOREST), 5th placegetter, over the concluding stages did not affect the horses finishing position, he was nonetheless reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out at least hands and heels to the end of the race where circumstances permit.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of MAN AND MING, D Whyte stated that the horse, which was having its first start at Happy Valley tonight and its first start over 1650 Metres, was able to obtain a good position throughout the race without having to be ridden along and travelled well.

He said he shifted the horse to the outside of HEART WOOD rounding the Home Turn, however, MAN AND MING did not quicken as he expected it to and consequently was unable to prevent FLYING IN from shifting out passing the 300 Metres.

He added when placed under pressure in the Straight MAN AND MAN did not respond to his riding and was disappointing.

A veterinary inspection of MAN AND MING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of GERONIMO MEADOW immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

MAN AND MING, LETS GOAL and LEELIS STAR were sent for sampling.
