Recap by phillip woo

Firming favourite Smart Volatility was posted very deep with some cover fourth from the rear, swung the final bend widest out and quickened nicely to run down Smart Man in the shadows of the post. Smart Man settled behind midfield and three deep with cover, peeled into the clear at the 350m, swept to the front 100m out and found one too good in the end. Keen Wongchoy settled second from the rear near the rails, shifted into the clear with three wider out at the 300m and was hitting the line with purpose to finish a close third. Dynamic Voyage was short of room behind Smart Man upon straightening, worked into clear running at the 250m and finished off nicely to just finish outside the placings. He's improving with each run. Winnie's Horse settled fifth and three deep with cover behind Hearts Keeper, straightened four deep, loomed at least a place chance at the 150m. Super Jockey was overracing third from the rear early on, improved to a position behind midfield at the 800m, popped off the rails four deep upon straightening, then was ducking and weaving for a run and finished up well. Big Four made minor headway.

Racing Incident Report

Race Ten: (646)-INDIGENOUS HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200Metres

Whilst in the Parade Ring, SUPER JOCKEY had its left front plate refitted.

On arrival at the barriers, SUPER JOCKEY was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race.

From outside barriers, SUPER JOCKEY and BIG FOUR were taken across behind runners shortly after the start.

After the 900 Metres, FIGHTER CLASS commenced to over-race and was steadied away from the heels of WINNIES HORSE making the turn near the 850 Metres.

In this incident, FIGHTER CLASS shifted out and bumped SUPER CAGA.

Passing the 700 Metres, EASY SUCCESS was hampered when crowded for room inside ATACX which was racing tight inside WINNIES HORSE.

SUPER JOCKEY, which was following, was hampered in consequence.

Rounding the Home Turn, EASY SUCCESS was steadied away from the heels of ATACX which was endeavouring to shift out from behind MERIDIAN TREASURE.

Both DYNAMIC VOYAGE and KEEN WONGCHOY had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight.

At the 400 Metres, ATACX was shifted out away from the heels of HEARTS KEEPER.

SUPER JOCKEY was unable to obtain clear running until passing the 300 Metres.

Near the 250 Metres, DYNAMIC VOYAGE raced tight between ATACX and FIGHTER CLASS.

Throughout the race, SUPER CAGA travelled wide and without cover.

A veterinary inspection of BIG FOUR and EASY SUCCESS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

SMART VOLATILITY and SMART MAN were sent for sampling.

GENERAL: 1.

After the running of Race 2, the track classification was officially changed from Good to Yielding to Good.

This change in the opinion of the Stewards should be recorded as being retrospective.

As a consequence of this, the official results will show Race 2 being run on a track rated Good.

Race 2 (630) The Stewards today interviewed Trainer C Fownes regarding EASY TO RICH which was reported to have pulled up distressed after the race.

EASY TO RICH had previously been reported to have been distressed after some of its races.

Also present today was Dr P Curl, Executive Manager, Veterinary Regulation.

Mr Fownes undertook to advise the owner of the Stewards intention to report to the Board of Stewards on the matter of the horses suitability to continue racing in Hong Kong.

He also undertook to advise the Stewards of the outcome of those discussions with the owner prior to any further action being taken.

In the meantime, EASY TO RICH will not be permitted to be entered in races.

Race 6 (634) The Stewards today interviewed Trainer C Fownes regarding the riding instructions given to C K Tong who rode HIGHEST ACCLAIM in this race.

Mr Fownes stated that since adding blinkers to HIGHEST ACCLAIM, the horse was able to be ridden in more forward positions and at its most recent start albeit from barrier 2, the horse was able to be positioned up behind the leaders.

He said up in grade in this race, HIGHEST ACCLAIM had a light weight and he felt that it would be in the best interests of the horse to utilize this light weight and ride HIGHEST ACCLAIM positively.

He said it been hoped that with TOMODACHI in the race that the field would string out and that HIGHEST ACCLAIM would be able to obtain a position close to the rail behind the pace.

He added unfortunately the circumstances of the race led to HIGHEST ACCLAIM travelling very wide and without cover, however, prior to the race he felt that the field may not have been as compact as what it was in regards to horses racing on the pace.

Mr Fownes was advised that his explanation would be noted.

C.

Race 7 (635) When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of WINNING APEX, O Doleuze stated that at its most recent start when successful the horse was able to obtain a position without another horse racing to its outside.

He said in that race WINNING APEX travelled well and after being shifted out rounding the Home Turn responded well to his riding.

He said in this race WINNING APEX was obliged to race amongst other horses and, in his opinion, the horse resented having to race in this position.

He said he had to commence riding WINNING APEX along after the 900 Metres to maintain its position inside NINTH GALAXY and had to vigorously ride the horse along after the 700 Metres to prevent it from giving ground.

He added he used the whip on WINNING APEX at the 600 Metres in an endeavour to have it respond, however, the horse would not maintain its position and was disappointing in the manner in which it finished off the race.

He said although the track surface was different on this occasion from when it was successful at its most recent start, he did not believe it was the reason for the horses disappointing performance, but rather because it was reluctant to race amongst other runners.

The Stewards also noted that when questioned regarding the disappointing performance of WINNING APEX in Race 369 on 2 February 2013, Jockey T Clark had advised that the horse was reluctant to maintain its position between runners despite being ridden along.
