Recap by phillip woo

Nordic One went forward to lead from gate eight, cornered three deep nearly two lengths on top and kept finding to score a shock win as a late-addition to the race. New Glory held the rails in second, came one off upon straightening and just couldn't reel in the winner while clearly holding the Quinella spot. Pretty One settled fourth and one off the rails, angled into the clear five deep upon straightening and ran on steadily to be clear-cut third. Odds-on favourite, Tarzan I Am was ridden forward four deep to sit fourth after a tardy break, straightened five deep and kept plugging away without quickening to just hold a First-4 spot from Masquerader in his initial run at the Valley. Masquerader was posted deep ahead of midfield with cover, swung the final bend with three wider out and kept grinding away under a left whip. Sunny Fay settled worse than midfield and one off the rails, swung the final bend with two wider out and kept on passed beaten rivals. Specked late, Seasons Star made his run at or near the rear, cornered three deep and was getting going late without menacing. Choice Treasure settled behind midfield and on the rails, peeled into the clear with three wider out upon straightening and only held his ground under a big weight.

Racing Incident Report

Race Seven: (653)-HING MAN HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200Metres

DR SUPER was withdrawn on 28.5.13 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter NORDIC ONE (T H So).

Before being allowed to race again, DR SUPER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

SUNNY FAY began only fairly.

MASQUERADER was crowded for room at the start between PRETTY ONE and CHOICE TREASURE which shifted in.

After the 1000 Metres, SUNNY FAY raced tight between ALL WIN BOY and ORIENTAL FANTASIA.

Approaching the 400 Metres, MASQUERADER got its head on the side, shifted out and made the Home Turn awkwardly.

After the 150 Metres, CHOICE TREASURE raced in restricted room between SUNNY FAY and MASQUERADER which shifted out slightly.

When questioned, D Whyte stated that TARZAN I AM did not begin as well as it did at its only other race start in Hong Kong and therefore he was obliged to ride the horse along from barrier 9 to take up a forward position as instructed.

He said he had to make use of TARZAN I AM to cross runners to his inside and it was not until near the 700 Metres that he was able to shift in and race outside the lead.

He said considering the amount of work that TARZAN I AM did in the early stages, he felt that the performance of the horse was good under the circumstances.

A veterinary inspection of TARZAN I AM immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of CHOICE TREASURE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

TARZAN I AM, NORDIC ONE and NEW GLORY were sent for sampling.
