Recap by phillip woo

Liberty Valance was posted three deep without cover early on before slotting in one off the rails in fourth at the 1,000m, was all out under the pump approaching the final bend, swept to the front four deep at the 200m and kept finding to just hold on by a narrow margin. Electronic Fortune eventually found a position one off the rails behind midfield approaching the 1,000m from a wide gate, was asked for an effort at the 500m, swung the final bend with one wider out and ran on willingly to just miss with late-market support. He's overdue for a win. You Know I Win was switched off second from the rear and one off the rails from an awkward alley, swung the final bend widest out and was doing some fine work late for a placing. Early favourite Twin Turbo settled third from the rear and one off the rails, shifted into the clear with two wider out at the 200m and made some progress to come out on top in a blanket finish for fourth. Panther Run settled worse than midfield and on the rails, angled into the clear with three wider passing the 250m and ran on steadily late. Late-fancied favourite Uwillbeglorious settled closer than normal in the run one off the rails behind the leader Leeli's Star, briefly hit the front one off the rails at the 250m and was swamped 30m out for a placing.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three: (667)-VILLAGE HANDICAP - Class 4 (Special Conditions) - 1650Metres

PANTHER RUN became unbalanced shortly after the start when bumped by UWILLBEGLORIOUS which itself was bumped by OWNERS GLORY which shifted in after making contact with FUN HEROES.

From the outside barrier, PERI PERI SAFFRON was taken across behind runners shortly after the start.

Approaching the 1500 Metres, TWIN TURBO was hampered when crowded for room between FUN HEROES and TRES MAGNIFIQUE which got its head on the side and shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.

M Chadwick (TRES MAGNIFIQUE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching the winning post on the first occasion he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of TWIN TURBO, causing that horse to be checked and in turn taken in onto OWNERS GLORY which was badly crowded for room outside PANTHER RUN.

PERI PERI SAFFRON, which was following, was steadied away from the heels of OWNERS GLORY in consequence.

M Chadwick was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday, 20 June 2013 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays).

The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Saturday, 8 June 2013.

In addition, M Chadwick was fined $80,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating 2 further racedays.

Passing the winning post on the first occasion, COLUMBUS LINE got its head on the side, shifted out and in doing so bumped UWILLBEGLORIOUS.

Passing the 1300 Metres, COLUMBUS LINE and UWILLBEGLORIOUS raced tight inside FUN HEROES which shifted in after being bumped by LEELIS STAR.

Approaching the 1000 Metres, TRES MAGNIFIQUE got its head on the side and shifted in away from LIBERTY VALANCE, resulting in TRES MAGNIFIQUE being awkwardly placed close to the heels of COLUMBUS LINE which itself was racing close to the heels of FUN HEROES.

Near the 900 Metres, PERI PERI SAFFRON was hampered when crowded for room by YOU KNOW I WIN which got its head up and shifted in abruptly away from the heels of TWIN TURBO.

TWIN TURBO had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight.

PERI PERI SAFFRON also had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight and after the 200 Metres was shifted to the inside of PANTHER RUN in an endeavour to find clear running.

When questioned, C Y Ho stated that, from barrier 3, he had been asked to ride UWILLBEGLORIOUS more positively and attempt to obtain a position with cover behind the leaders.

He said passing the winning post on the first occasion he was racing to the outside of COLUMBUS LINE and steadied UWILLBEGLORIOUS which began well to allow FUN HEROES and LEELIS STAR to cross.

He said he expected FUN HEROES to maintain its position in the lead and LEELIS STAR to race outside that horse which would provide UWILLBEGLORIOUS with cover.

He said however that passing the 1200 Metres FUN HEROES was steadied to allow LEELIS STAR to cross which resulted in UWILLBEGLORIOUS being left racing without cover.

He added when the tempo of the race slackened passing the 1000 Metres, UWILLBEGLORIOUS, when unable to obtain cover, was obliged to race more forward than had been anticipated outside the leader LEELIS STAR.

A veterinary inspection of COLUMBUS LINE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of LEELIS STAR immediately following the race revealed the horse to be lame in its right hind leg, however, the horse was unable to be scoped.

Before being allowed to race again, LEELIS STAR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
