Recap by phillip woo

Rainbow Chic found a spot in midfield and on the rails, shifted out abruptly for clear running five deep at the 250m and quickened brilliantly to take control 50m out for the win. Pure Champion enjoyed the rails in fourth, straightened three-to-four deep and finished up nicely off a big weight to edge out Outdoor Pegasus for second off a big weight. Outdoor Pegasus rolled forward to park outside the leader Victor Delight through steady fractions, assumed a narrow lead 300m out and grudgingly gave way late to just miss a Quinella spot. Punted late, Endowing was posted no closer than three deep in midfield with eventual cover, copped a bump 250m out while corning with three wider out and stayed on well for fourth. Willie Cazals made his run at the rear, improved his position along the rails to have two behind him at the 1,000m, straightened three deep and was doing his best work late without menacing. He's clearly better over a longer trip. Specked late, B eauty Lead rolled forward after missing the start to eventually find a spot three deep without cover in third at the 1,200m, rounded the final bend four deep and kept on one-paced over the final 100m. Victor Delight held the rails on the lead, cornered narrowly on top and had no more to offer inside the 100m.

Racing Incident Report

Race Seven: (671)-THE HAPPY VALLEY VASE (HANDICAP) - Class 1 - 1800Metres

BEAUTY LEAD was slow to begin.

RAINBOW CHIC was crowded for room at the start between MIZANI and WILLIE CAZALS which shifted out.

Despite being ridden along in the early stages, LIBERATOR failed to muster speed.

After the 1400 Metres, BEAUTY LEAD was left racing wide and without cover.

RAINBOW CHIC was held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight.

Passing the 300 Metres, BUSINESS AS USUAL was steadied away from the heels of RAINBOW CHIC which shifted out to obtain clear running.

Near the 250 Metres, ENDOWING became badly unbalanced when heavily bumped by RAINBOW CHIC (C Y Ho) which, when shifting out from behind BEAUTY LEAD into clear running, then shifted out abruptly.

Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that RAINBOW CHICs racing manners at this time had contributed to this incident and that C Y Ho had attempted to take corrective measures to prevent RAINBOW CHIC from shifting out further, he was reprimanded and advised to take all available measures to prevent his mount from shifting ground and causing interference in similar circumstances.

When questioned regarding the performance of MIZANI, R Fourie stated that his mount was not suited by the slow tempo of the race in the middle stages.

He said MIZANI came on and off the bridle during the race and passing the 600 Metres he was unable to improve his position when racing behind PACKING OK and IRIAN.

He said the tempo of the race increased rounding the Home Turn and MIZANI was initially left flat-footed.

He added MIZANI, in his opinion, finished off the race satisfactorily given the circumstances of tonights race.

A veterinary inspection of MIZANI immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, MIZANI will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that IRIAN had lost its left front plate.

MIZANI, RAINBOW CHIC and PURE CHAMPION were sent for sampling.
