Recap by phillip woo

Namjong Turbo showed good pace to lead from gate 13 with the blinkers removed, cornered a half-length on top, opened up by two lengths at the 300m and drew clear to win under a feather weight. Sunseeker was switched off at the rear from the widest gate, swung the final bend widest out and let down nicely in the final few metres for second. He was suited by the conditions. Noble Flier was effectively one-out, one-back in the run, straightened five deep and ran on steadily. Bamboo Danc e made his run third from the rear and one off the rails, swung the final bend with one wider out and finished up nicely to just snare a First-4 spot by a whisker. Mega Posh enjoyed the box-seat run and was swamped late for a placing - as always. Bullish Power held a position along the rails in midfield, shifted two-to-three deep upon straightening and only held his ground over the final 150m. Late-fancied favourite, Danesouth held a position ahead of midfield and one off the rails, straightened four-to-five deep and only held his ground. Humongus settled behind midfield and three deep, rounded the final bend with two wider out and was plodding over the final 200m. Early favourite Smart Guy rolled forward to settle second without cover at the 1,100m, straightened three deep and was empty passing the 200m.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three: (696)-LEVADE HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1800Metres

MEDIC CHAMPION began only fairly and then, despite being ridden along, failed to muster speed.

SMART GUY was bumped at the start by SPICY SIAM which in turn was bumped by SABINA.

Near the 850 Metres, SABINA was left racing wide and without cover.

After the 600 Metres, DANESOUTH was awkwardly placed close to the heels of NOBLE FLIER.

When questioned regarding the improved performance of NAMJONG TURBO, Trainer B K Ng stated that after its most recent start when ridden by Jockey T Berry, that rider recommended that he remove the blinkers from the horse as NAMJONG TURBO had travelled too keenly with that piece of gear applied.

He said he had altered the horses track work slightly in the lead up to todays race to try and have it more relaxed in this race.

He said with the light weight and being able to race in the lead on todays track together with the removal of the blinkers were all factors for the horses improved performance.

When questioned, Y T Cheng advised that he had been given identical instructions to those he was given last start when riding SMART GUY and that was to have the horse in about 5th or 6th position with cover if possible.

He said at its last start SMART GUY drew much better than today and after beginning well from barrier 11 in this race, he commenced to shift over with the field in the early stages.

He said after the 1600 Metres he steadied SMART GUY with a view to obtaining a position with cover behind DANESOUTH, however, DANESOUTH itself was steadied at this time and he was not able to shift the horse in to obtain cover.

He said rather than remain racing in a three wide position without cover, he elected, after the 1200 Metres, to allow SMART GUY to stride forward and obtain a position closer to the rail but further forward in the race than had been intended.

A veterinary inspection of and SMART GUY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that an endoscopic examination of MEGA POSH showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, MEGA POSH will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

DANESOUTH, NAMJONG TURBO and SUNSEEKER were sent for sampling.
