Recap by phillip woo

Fair Trade lived up to a good barrier trial with a game victory carrying top weight. He travelled in the box-seat behind the leader Winnie's Horse, was quiet in the saddle until asked for a response at the 300m, hit the front passing the 200m and then kept up a good gallop for a cosy win. Vital Gold settled three back along the rails, shifted to the outside of Fair Trade for a clear run at the 300m and stayed on nicely. He'll be one to follow up to 1,800m this season. Mr Medici stalking the leader Winnie's Horse to his outside, assumed a narrow lead at the 350m and kept on gamely for a placing. Deep Thinker settled second from the rear and one off the rails, was strung up in traffic with two wider out upon straightening, shifted underneath runners at the 200m and finished off well. He was unlucky not to have gone closer. Chater Way travelled one-out, one-back, straightened five deep and kept plugging on one-paced. Real Generous was held up behind runners when failing to get to the outside at the 400m, ducked back inside at the 200m and ran on thereafter. He's definitely looking for a further trip. Why Not was always deep on the course near the rear after going back from a wide gate, made some progress deepest out at the 600m and came up one-paced over the final 150m. Winnie's Horse was gone at the 200m after setting an even pace. He wasn't up to the rise in class and distance. Genki Twins didn't have much left in the tank approaching the 200m.

Racing Incident Report

Race Ten: (010)-COTTON TREE HANDICAP - Class 2 - 1400Metres

SILVER GRECIAN and TURBO JEWELLERY were crowded for room at the start between FAIR TRADE and VITAL GOLD which shifted in.

CHATER WAY shifted out shortly after the start, resulting in DEEP THINKER being crowded for room out onto WRATH OF FIRE which was bumped.

After this, WRATH OF FIRE was taken across behind runners.

From the outside barrier, WHY NOT was taken across behind runners shortly after the start.

Passing the 750 Metres, DEEP THINKER got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of REAL GENEROUS which itself was awkwardly placed close to the heels of GENKI TWINS.

As a result, DEEP THINKER shifted out, resulting in WHY NOT being taken into a position wide and without cover.

At the 500 Metres, CHATER WAY was bumped by FAIR TRADE which shifted out to obtain clear running.

After being held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight, DEEP THINKER was crowded for room passing the 300 Metres when obtaining tight running between WRATH OF FIRE and REAL GENEROUS which shifted out.

Near the 200 Metres, SILVER GRECIAN was shifted to the inside of TURBO JEWELLERY and then near the 100 Metres was momentarily awkwardly placed between WINNIES HORSE and TURBO JEWELLERY.

Approaching the 100 Metres, GENKI TWINS was steadied away from the heels of REAL GENEROUS which got its head on the side and hung in under pressure.

For the major part of the race, PRESIDENT LINCOLN travelled wide and without cover.

When questioned, M L Yeung stated that he had been asked to ride TURBO JEWELLERY where it was comfortable, but it was expected the horse would be able to race in about a midfield position over this distance.

He said after being crowded for room at the start, TURBO JEWELLERY did not show early speed and therefore he had to ride the horse along after the 1300 Metres to have it travel in as forward a position as possible.

He said he slapped the horse down the shoulder in an endeavour to have it improve its position, however, TURBO JEWELLERY was initially reluctant to improve its position in the early stages.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of GENKI TWINS, D Whyte stated that he was able to obtain a good position on the horse in the early stages and GENKI TWINS travelled well throughout the early and middle stages.

He said he placed GENKI TWINS under pressure prior to the Home Turn and whilst the horse was not showing any turn of foot, it initially stayed on one-paced in the early part of the Straight.

He added however that GENKI TWINS then commenced to give ground from the 300 Metres and although the horse was awkwardly placed close to the heels of REAL GENEROUS near the 100 Metres, GENKI TWINS was well beaten at this time and, in his opinion, was most disappointing.

A veterinary inspection of GENKI TWINS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

FAIR TRADE and VITAL GOLD were sent for sampling.
