Recap by phillip woo

Keen Tactics stayed off the rails while travelling sweetly in fourth, straightened four deep and wore down favourite Southern Springs 80m out for a maiden success at his 16th start. Favourite Southern Springs settled a comfortable third on the back of the genuine pace being executed by Tarrega, worked to the front 200m out and went down fighting, despite a return to Class Four. Forever Ahead settled midfield along the rails, was held up four deep for a clear run until the 150m and finished up nicely thereafter. He should have had a say at the finish with unimpeded running. Tarrega was hard ridden to lead, turned the final bend two lengths on top and grudgingly gave way over the final 100m. It was a good run in defeat after setting a good tempo. Goldland Dancer settled fifth and near the rails, rounded the final bend with three wider out and came up one-paced over the last 150m with every chance. Dashing Super stalked the speed in second, straightened one off the rails and was giving ground under the whip over the final 150m.

Racing Incident Report

Race Five: (049)-SHENYANG HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1600Metres

GLOBAL FAME was slow to begin.

From the outside barrier, PANTHER RUN was taken across behind runners shortly after the start.

Shortly after the 400 Metres, PRINCE OF SUNSHINE was shifted to the outside of GLOBAL FAME to obtain clear running.

In the early part of the Straight, FOREVER AHEAD had some difficulty obtaining clear running.

When questioned, D Whyte stated that he was asked to position SPURS ON, from barrier 12, in about 5th or 6th position if possible.

He said SPURS ON began awkwardly, shifted out at the start and in doing so made heavy contact with READY TO CELEBRATE which was then taken out onto PANTHER RUN.

He said after this he rode SPURS ON along in an endeavour to have it improve its position, however, SPURS ON would not respond to his riding and settled at the rear of the field.

He added passing the 1500 Metres he used the whip on SPURS ON in an attempt to have it concentrate and improve its position as at this stage it had become detached from the second last horse.

He said he continued to ride SPURS ON along, however, it was not until passing the 1100 Metres when SPURS ON was able to obtain a position on the rail and then commenced to travel better.

He said after being obliged to race at the tail of the field, SPURS ON finished off the race "evenly".

TARREGA lost its left front plate after the race.

After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on READY TO CELEBRATE at the request of Trainer Y S Tsui.

The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, READY TO CELEBRATE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of MALAYAN PEARL immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

KEEN TACTICS and SOUTHERN SPRINGS were sent for sampling.
