Recap by phillip woo

Blazing Speed settled behind midfield and three deep with cover, swung the final bend with one wider out and let down smartly to take control 150m. Favourite Mizani wasn't flash into stride, moved to fifth along the rails at the 1,400m, swept to the front 200m out and found one too good on the day. Willie Cazals made his run fourth from the rear, was short of room after straightening three deep and finished off nicely when obtaining a clear run 200m out. H e'll be hard to beat when stepping over a preferred route this season. Designs On Rome travelled worse than midfield and one off the rails, rallied with three wider out at the 300m and closed off nicely for fourth. He'll certainly come on for this run. Outdoor Pegasus made his run third from the rear and two off the rails, peeled into the clear widest out upon straightening and closed off reasonably well. Specked late, Beauty Lead was stopping 200m out. Best-backed late, Fair Trade enjoyed a nice run, straightened three deep but was struggling 200m out.

Racing Incident Report

Race Nine: (081)-THE CHINESE RECREATION CLUB CHALLENGE CUP (HANDICAP) - Class 1 - 1600Metres

From the outside barrier, REAL GENEROUS was taken across behind runners shortly after the start.

Passing the 1300 Metres, FLAGSHIP SHINE was steadied away from the heels of BEAUTY LEAD.

Near the 1200 Metres, FAIR TRADE got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of BEAUTY LEAD.

After the 700 Metres, OUTDOOR PEGASUS commenced to travel keenly and got its head up when being checked away from the heels of BLAZING SPEED.

WILLIE CAZALS was held up for clear running near the 250 Metres.

Approaching the 200 Metres, FAIR TRADE shifted in and was awkwardly placed outside the heels of BEAUTY LEAD which shifted out slightly.

MIZANI became unbalanced near the 150 Metres.

Throughout the race, SAME WORLD travelled wide and without cover.

When questioned regarding his riding of FREE JUDGEMENT over the final 150 Metres, N Pinna stated that near the 150 Metres he had to shift FREE JUDGEMENT away from FAIR TRADE which shifted out.

He said when he did this, FREE JUDGEMENT shifted out towards the heels of PACKING OK which was also shifting in slightly under pressure.

He said for this reason he again had to stop riding FREE JUDGEMENT.

He added after the 100 Metres as he felt that FREE JUDGEMENT would not be able to improve its placing, he did not fully test that horse over the concluding stages.

N Pinna was advised that his explanation would be reported and that he has an obligation to ensure that he rides his mounts in such a manner so as to leave no room for query.

When questioned regarding his riding of OUTDOOR PEGASUS in the early part of the Straight, K C Leung stated that he followed the eventual winner BLAZING SPEED into the race and was travelling well.

He said he remained racing on the back of BLAZING SPEED so as to hold OUTDOOR PEGASUS up for one final sprint.

He said when BLAZING SPEED was placed under full pressure prior to the 300 Metres, he immediately commenced riding his mount along, however, BLAZING SPEED showed a better turn of foot than OUTDOOR PEGASUS.

He added he then placed the horse under full pressure and whilst OUTDOOR PEGASUS finished off the race well, he believed the horse was only holding its position over the concluding stages.

K C Leung was advised to ensure that he places his mounts under pressure at the appropriate time so as to ensure that they are able to finish in the best possible position.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of FAIR TRADE, Z Purton stated that when successful at its first start this season over 1400 Metres, he believed the horse had been advantaged by going into the race fresh.

He said today stepping up to 1600 Metres, a distance over which he does not believe that FAIR TRADE is as effective, he formed the opinion that FAIR TRADE was not stretching out as comfortably as it did at its first start this season.

A veterinary inspection of FAIR TRADE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

BLAZING SPEED and MIZANI were sent for sampling.
