Recap by phillip woo

All Win Boy drove forward to settle behind midfield after being snagged back early on from an awkward gate, pulled off heels into the clear at the 250m and finished up willingly to scalp Fresh Air near the wire for an upset victory. Fresh Air enjoyed a lovely run along the rails in fifth, came through along the inside to lead at the 250m and found one too smart in the end. It was a good effort in defeat. Capital K straightened four deep and stayed on all right for a placing. Early favourite Demon Demon made his run around midfield and three deep with cover, swung the final bend with three wider out and let down nicely early in the straight but did appear to peak on his run 100m out. He was in need of the run. Good Hong Kong settled behind midfield, swung the final bend widest out and was getting going late without menacing. Fujian Spirit missed the kick but was doing some nice work late in his initial run down in grade for his new trainer. Plunged late to jump favourite, Mighty Equus settled midfield and one off the rails, rounded the final bend six deep and had nothing to offer over the final 200m with a step up in distance and weight for a last-start win. Smarts Kids was struggling 150m out under the whip, while Flashing Boy was never on the course from an awkward gate.

Racing Incident Report

Race Five: (095)-LOS ANGELES HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Metres

As the start was effected, FUJIAN SPIRIT became fractious and lifted its front feet off the ground, resulting in the horse losing a considerable amount of ground.

Having regard to FUJIAN SPIRITs previous record in respect of barrier incidents, that horse will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial before being allowed to race again.

FLASHING GUY began awkwardly.

ALL WIN BOY was taken across behind runners shortly after the start.

When being steadied in the early stages with a view to being taken across behind runners, JOYFUL LUCK got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of FLASHING GUY shortly after the start when that horse shifted out.

For the majority of the race, FLASHING GUY travelled wide and without cover and after the 650 Metres got its head up when awkwardly placed outside the heels of RED COURAGE.

Making the turn after the 600 Metres, FRESH AIR momentarily raced tight inside CAPITAL K.

VICTORY GENERAL got its head on the side and hung out making the Home Turn.

Over the final 200 Metres, FUJIAN SPIRIT, which was closing off the race strongly, was not able to obtain clear running and consequently was not able to be fully tested.

Near the 150 Metres, CAPITAL K raced tight between VICTORY GENERAL and ALL WIN BOY which shifted out after improving into tight running between CAPITAL K and SMART KIDS.

Throughout the race, RED COURAGE travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground.

When questioned regarding the performance of MIGHTY EQUUS, K Teetan stated that he had been instructed to take up a forward position if possible on MIGHTY EQUUS.

He said as the start was effected MIGHTY EQUUS lifted its front feet off the ground, then shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of VICTORY GENERAL which resulted in MIGHTY EQUUS losing ground.

He said he rode the horse along to take up as forward a position as possible, however, MIGHTY EQUUS was obliged to race further back in the field than had been hoped.

He said MIGHTY EQUUS travelled only fairly throughout the race and was inclined to climb in its action.

He added in the Straight MIGHTY EQUUS finished off the race only one-paced and, in his opinion, was disappointing particularly given the fact that the horse had performed well in its track work leading into todays race.

A veterinary inspection of MIGHTY EQUUS immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, MIGHTY EQUUS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of SMART KIDS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

MIGHTY EQUUS, ALL WIN BOY and FRESH AIR were sent for sampling.
