Recap by phillip woo

Well Done led as expected from gate one, cornered just over a length on top and held off Victory Ide Say over the final 150m by a lip for a fifth success over this Valley trip. Victory Ide Say settled on the back of the leaders along the fence, straightened one off with every chance and just failed to overhaul the leader. Favourite Naughty Baby travelled effectively one-out, one-back, swung the final bend with one wider out and wandered about under pressure to just land a placing. Firming late, Maroon Prince settled second and one off the rails, rounded the final bend five deep and only kept on one-paced over the final 150m. Creative Union settled midfield and on the rails after a sluggish break, shifted four deep at the 250m and was one-paced over the final 200m. Leeli's Star bided his time third from the rear and one off the rails, turned the final bend five deep and kept on passed beaten rivals. Firming at the jump, Star Of Wai Bo was never on the track two back from a wide gate, drifted back approaching the final bend and was never a factor.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three: (140)-HAZEL HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Metres

VICTORY IDE SAY and MAROON PRINCE began only fairly.

CREATIVE UNION, which was being steadied to obtain a position behind runners with cover, was hampered shortly after the start by CHINA POWER which was taken out by O'HALO which got its head on the side and shifted out.

After this, CHINA POWER was ridden along, however, approaching the 1100 Metres was steadied and taken across behind O'HALO.

STAR OF WAI BO was vigorously ridden along in the early stages to obtain a forward position, however, when left racing wide making the first turn near the 1000 Metres was then taken across behind runners to obtain cover.

However, STAR OF WAI BO was unable to obtain cover and travelled wide throughout the race.

O'HALO also travelled wide and without cover throughout the race.

For some distance after the 900 Metres, CREATIVE UNION had to be checked away from the heels of NAUGHTY BABY when proving very difficult to settle.

Approaching the 500 Metres, MAROON PRINCE got its head on the side and hung out.

MAROON PRINCE continued to hang out until entering the Home Straight.

In the Straight and particularly over the final 200 Metres, NAUGHTY BABY got its head on the side, hung in and proved difficult to ride.

Over the concluding stages, WELL DONE and VICTORY IDE SAY raced tight.

When questioned, Z Purton stated that he was instructed to go forward on SMART KIDS in the early stages, however, despite being vigorously ridden along, the horse did not show sufficient pace to clear runners to its inside.

He said because of this approaching the 1000 Metres he shifted his mount across behind runners to obtain a position with cover.

He said SMART KIDS did not travel well and after the 1000 Metres was reluctant to shift in to a position closer to the rail.

He said SMART KIDS did not feel comfortable in its action and lay out making the Home Turn.

He added he placed SMART KIDS under pressure in the early part of the Straight but as he felt that the horse may have gone amiss, he eased it down over the concluding stages.

A veterinary inspection of SMART KIDS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of SMART KIDS, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, SMART KIDS will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of ELEPHANT MAGIC and STAR OF WAI BO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

NAUGHTY BABY, WELL DONE and VICTORY IDE SAY were sent for sampling.
