Recap by phillip woo

Favourite Gold-Fun settled fourth and one off the rails, cornered in four deep and wore down leader Helene Spirit in the final few strides to remain unbeaten in three starts this term. Helene Spirit dictated the running, cornered nearly two lengths on top and went down fighting yet again for back-to-back seconds. Xtension settled midfield and one off the rails, rounded the final bend with two wider out and ran on nicely to get into a place position 50m out. Real Specialist was niggled early on to hold a position second from the rear, straightened four deep under the left whip and was getting going late to collar Dan Excel for fourth. Dan Excel settled on the back of the speed along the rails, stayed near the inside upon straightening and came up one-paced over the final 150m. Packing Whiz was allowed to find his feet at the back of the pack, swung the final bend widest out and was doing his best work late when the race was all but over. He was in need of the outing. Blazing Speed settled three back along the rails, came two off upon straightening and was never properly tested when copping a check between runners at the 150m.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight: (171)-THE BOCHK WEALTH MANAGEMENT JOCKEY CLUB MILE - Group Two - 1600Metres

Whilst being saddled, DAN EXCEL became fractious.

DAN EXCEL was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race.

XTENSION shifted in at the start and bumped BLAZING SPEED.

At the 400 Metres, REAL SPECIALIST was awkwardly placed outside the heels of BLAZING SPEED which attempted to shift to the outside of PURE CHAMPION.

Near the 150 Metres, BLAZING SPEED was crowded for room between PURE CHAMPION and REAL SPECIALIST which, after initially being taken in slightly by XTENSION before it was corrected by its rider, then shifted in further away from that horse.

As the Stewards were of the opinion that there was no rider error associated with this incident, no further action was taken.

When questioned regarding the performance of BLAZING SPEED, M Chadwick stated that, in his opinion, the horse was somewhat disappointing in that it did not show the same turn of foot that it had shown in its recent runs.

He said BLAZING SPEED finished off the race only one-paced and he felt that this may be attributable to the fact that the horse had a tough run at its last start which may have had an adverse effect on its run today.

A veterinary inspection of BLAZING SPEED immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

GOLD-FUN and HELENE SPIRIT were sent for sampling.
