Recap by phillip woo

Pillowin lived up to a cheeky run on the weekend to wear down favourite Great Alexander four deep in the final 20m for the win following a box-seat run with money coming for him late. Great Alexander was well-rated on the front, straightened just over a length to the good and found one too good on the evening. Punted late, Serendipity settled midfield and one off the rails, ducked-and-weaved about for a clear run after cornering three deep and finished up nicely to gun down Gracytom 50m out for a placing. He appears from his past two to have reached a bottom and may be able to get away with a win in due time. Gracytom settled third from the rear and near the inside after a sluggish break, worked to third along the inside at the 100m and just lost a placing in deep stretch. Oriental Fantasia settled midfield along the rails, straightened one off and stayed on all right in an improved effort with a drop in grade. Highland Dragon travelled fore of midfield and one off the rails, straightened four deep and didn't let down when popped the question in his return to action off an injury. Good Smile stalked the speed one off in second, peeled six deep upon straightening and was struggling passing the 200m.

Racing Incident Report

Race One: (193)-HAKODATE HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1000Metres

GRACYTOM and RAY OF GOLD were slow to begin.

Shortly after the start, ORIENTAL FANTASIA shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of HIGHLAND DRAGON which also shifted in marginally.

This resulted in both horses becoming unbalanced and ORIENTAL FANTASIA being steadied when crowded for room outside KING OF THE DAY.

From the outside barrier, ALL MY GLORY was taken across behind runners shortly after the start.

Shortly after entering the Straight, SERENDIPITY was shifted in after being steadied away from the heels of HIGHLAND DRAGON.

Passing the 200 Metres, GRACYTOM raced tight inside ORIENTAL FANTASIA which shifted in under pressure.

Over the concluding stages, ORIENTAL FANTASIA was awkwardly placed inside the heels of SERENDIPITY.

Because of this, ORIENTAL FANTASIA was not able to be fully tested in the run to the finishing line.

Throughout the race, LUCKY RED travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of GOOD SMILE, N Callan stated that he had to ride GOOD SMILE more vigorously in the early stages to obtain a forward position than he did when he rode it last start.

He said GOOD SMILE did not travel as comfortably as it did on that occasion and in the Straight was disappointing in the manner in which it weakened out of the race.

He added that prior to its last start GOOD SMILE had had some time off and it raced well when fresh but tonight the horse raced "flat".

A veterinary inspection of GOOD SMILE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of HIGHLAND DRAGON immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

PILLOWIN and GREAT ALEXANDER were sent for sampling.
