Recap by phillip woo

Golden Bauhinia settled fourth along the rails, worked to the front one off the rails at the 200m and kept on nicely to hold off the fast-finishing Sharp Hunter to notch a third win this season with money pouring into him late. Lightly-raced Sharp Hunter travelled three back along the rails, rallied four deep upon straightening and ran on nicely to come out a clear second in his return to action this season for his new trainer Francis Lui with a drop in grade. He'll be winning a race this season. Well-punted late, Lovely Boy rolled forward from a wide gate to vie for the lead with stablemate Ride On The Fire, assumed the front three deep at the 250m and kept on gamely to hold off Nobody But You for a placing. Nobody But You found the rails behind midfield from gate nine, shifted into the clear five deep at the 150m and ran on steadily to finish a clear fourth. Jolly Posh ran on steadily without threatening in an improved effort. King Tai Sing turned the final bend with three deeper out and made some progress late. Well-fancied Super Goal Elite made his run outside Sharp Hunter, straightened with two wider out and only held his ground when popped the question. Favourite Ride On The Fire cornered narrowly on top and was stopping 200m out in a disappointing performance.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three: (195)-SAPPORO HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1000Metres

SHARP HUNTER began awkwardly.

JOYFUL LUCK and AMERICAN FAME were slow to begin.

AMEDEO began awkwardly, shifted out abruptly and in doing so made heavy contact with KING TAI SING which became unbalanced.

After this, KING TAI SING was taken across behind runners from the outside barrier.

LOVELY BOY shifted in at the start and hampered NOBODY BUT YOU.

When being steadied to obtain a position with cover near the 700 Metres, SUPER GOAL ELITE got its head up and became unbalanced.

JOLLY POSH, which was following, was steadied away from the heels of SUPER GOAL ELITE.

Passing the 700 Metres, AMERICAN FAME was steadied away from the heels of NOBODY BUT YOU which shifted in.

Near the 150 Metres, KING TAI SING was shifted out away from AMEDEO which was giving ground.

Throughout the race, AMEDEO travelled wide and without cover.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of RIDE ON THE FIRE, Z Purton stated that he had to make some use of the horse in the early stages to cross runners to its inside as he was required to do at its last start when he rode the horse.

He said whilst RIDE ON THE FIRE had LOVELY BOY positioned to its outside in tonight's race, the horse still travelled comfortably and he expected it to quicken when placed under pressure in the Straight.

He said however that after commencing to ride his mount along rounding the Home Turn, RIDE ON THE FIRE did not show a turn of foot and, in his opinion, was disappointing in the manner in which it weakened in the Straight.

Trainer C Fownes stated that RIDE ON THE FIRE had pleased him in the lead up to tonight's race and a forward showing was expected.

He said at its most recent run, when second, the horse was able to obtain an uncontested lead which was in contrast to tonight when the horse had another runner positioned directly to its outside.

A veterinary inspection of RIDE ON THE FIRE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of KING TAI SING and SUPER GOAL ELITE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

RIDE ON THE FIRE, GOLDEN BAUHINIA and SHARP HUNTER were sent for sampling.
