Recap by phillip woo

Glorious Sunday went back early on before rolling forward to settle behind midfield and one off the rails at the 1,100m, rounded the final bend six deep and let down nicely under a big weight to win going away at the 100m for back-to-back wins. He remains one to follow off a lighter weight in the next grade. Plunged late, Santa Fe Sun was patiently ridden third from the rear along the rails from a wide gate, peeled into the clear with two wider out at the 250m and finished up willingly to collar early favourite Yee Cheong Star in the shadows of the post for second, despite a rise in grade. Yee Cheong Star eventually settled one off in second behind the leader Multivictory, cruised to the front three deep at the 300m and found a couple too good in the end. Mighty K settled midfield and two off the rails with cover, rallied five deep upon straightening and ran on steadily to edge Multivictory for fourth without threatening on a place line. Fancied late, Multivictory went a steady clip on the lead, cornered a half-length on top and was gradually coming back to the field over the final 150m.

Racing Incident Report

Race Nine: (229)-PARIS HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1400Metres

After being loaded, JOLLY SPRING became fractious and got out underneath the front barrier gates.

JOLLY SPRING then completed a circuit of the track riderless.

Acting on veterinary advice that JOLLY SPRING was not suitable to race, the horse was withdrawn by order of the Stewards.

Before being allowed to race again, JOLLY SPRING will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

MULTIVICTORY proved difficult to load.

Before being allowed to race again, MULTIVICTORY will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.

GLORIOUS SUNDAY was checked when crowded for room at the start between THE WAY FOR ALL which was taken out by MULTIVICTORY and YEE CHEONG STAR which shifted in.

CANNY FRANCO shifted out at the start and bumped the hindquarters of MIGHTY K which became unbalanced.

From a wide barrier, PRINCIPAL was taken across behind runners shortly after the start.

After the 1100 Metres, LONGWAH SUPREME proved difficult to settle and got its head up on a number of occasions when awkwardly placed close to the heels of YEE CHEONG STAR.

Passing the 1000 Metres, BERLINSKI was momentarily steadied away from the heels of MR GOURMET which shifted in.

Passing the 600 Metres, BERLINSKI, which was travelling keenly, was checked away from the heels of GLORIOUS SUNDAY.

For some distance in the early part of the Straight, CANNY FRANCO raced tight between LONGWAH SUPREME and GENUINE LEADER, both of which shifted marginal ground.

Passing the 300 Metres, CANNY FRANCO was shifted to the inside of GENUINE LEADER when disappointed for running between that horse and LONGWAH SUPREME.

Approaching the 100 Metres, GENUINE LEADER was shifted out away from the heels of YEE CHEONG STAR.

GENUINE LEADER was then awkwardly placed over the concluding stages behind YEE CHEONG STAR which shifted out slightly and consequently was not able to be properly tested.

In the Straight, MR GOURMET got its head on the side and hung out under pressure.

Throughout the race, THE WAY FOR ALL travelled wide and without cover.

THE WAY FOR ALL lost its left front plate after passing the winning post.

When questioned, T Berry (PRINCIPAL) stated that, from a wide barrier, he had been instructed to obtain a midfield position with cover if possible.

He said due to the positioning of runners in the early stages, he believed that he would have been very wide had he have attempted to obtain this position, therefore he elected to come back further in the field and obtain a position closer to the rail with cover.

He said after this he positioned PRINCIPAL with a view to shifting out, however, LAUGH OUT LOUD, which was in advance of PRINCIPAL, was very wide and as a run developed between that horse and BERLINSKI, he elected to improve into that run and follow MR GOURMET through.

He added MR GOURMET did not quicken as he had hoped and he was awkwardly placed behind that horse in the early part of the Straight.

He said he was not immediately able to shift PRINCIPAL out at this time as his mount was inclined to lay in and proved initially reluctant to shift to the outside of runners.

After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on GENUINE LEADER at the request of Trainer A T Millard.

The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, GENUINE LEADER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

PRINCIPAL, GLORIOUS SUNDAY and SANTA FE SUN were sent for sampling.
