Recap by phillip woo

Always Something bided his time second from the rear and two off the rails with cover from the widest gate, swung the final bend widest out and let down nicely to get up close to home for the victory. Firming favourite Golden Addiction was handy in the run through the opening 400m, shuffled back to a position third from the rear approaching the final bend, worked his way into the clear with one wider at the 300m and finished up willingly to snatch second on the line from All The Winners, who gave a decent sight on the speed and grudgingly gave way, despite turning the final bend two lengths clear. Happy Centenary made his run near the back and two off the rails with cover, swung the final bend with three wider out and had to steady 50m out when coming with a good burst late to inject value into the First-4. It was a much-improved effort at only his third career run and he won't be far off a winning run. Best-backed late, Real General travelled on the back of the speed in third and near the rails, worked to second three deep at the 200m, was one-paced at the 100m and hampered 50m out. Spoke To Carlo travelled three back along the fence, stayed near the inside upon straightening and came up one-paced with every chance over the final 150m, despite a gear change to a hood. Young Talent settled behind midfield along the rails, straightened two-to-three deep in a bit of traffic and came up flat when gaining a clear run 200m out. Terrific Master was a late withdrawal.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three: (251)-PITT HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1650Metres

On arrival at the Start, TERRIFIC MASTER was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was lame in the right front leg and accordingly was not suitable to race.

Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of TERRIFIC MASTER.

Before being allowed to race again, TERRIFIC MASTER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

SPOKE TO CARLO proved difficult to load.

Before being allowed to race again, SPOKE TO CARLO will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.

After being loaded, HELLO KIMBERLEY became fractious.

Before being allowed to race again, HELLO KIMBERLEY will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.

EURO SWIFTLY shifted out at the start, resulting in HELLO KIMBERLEY being crowded for room out onto the hindquarters of DOUBLE DRAGON which became unbalanced.

SPOKE TO CARLO began awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with the hindquarters off EVERSPRING, resulting in both horses being hampered.

Passing the 1500 Metres, SPOKE TO CARLO raced tight inside EVERSPRING which got its head on the side and shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.

Passing the winning post on the first occasion, HAPPY CENTENARY got its head up when momentarily racing in restricted room inside EURO SWIFTLY which also got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of HELLO KIMBERLEY.

Passing the 1400 Metres, SPOKE TO CARLO was steadied away from the heels of REAL GENERAL which shifted in when barely clear.

Approaching the 1100 Metres, GOLDEN ADDICTION got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of HELLO KIMBERLEY.

Passing the 1100 Metres, HAPPY CENTENARY became awkward and shifted out when racing close to the heels of EVERSPRING.

Near the 700 Metres, GOLDEN ADDICTION got its head up when being checked away from the heels of HELLO KIMBERLEY.

For some distance after this, GOLDEN ADDICTION was awkwardly placed when held up behind HELLO KIMBERLEY which was giving ground.

Passing the 300 Metres, YOUNG TALENT was momentarily awkwardly placed behind REAL GENERAL.

Near the 200 Metres, EURO SWIFTLY, which was commencing to give ground, became unbalanced when bumped on the hindquarters by HAPPY CENTENARY which shifted out.

O Doleuze (ALWAYS SOMETHING) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the 100 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of GOLDEN ADDICTION, causing that horse to be taken in onto HAPPY CENTENARY, resulting in HAPPY CENTENARY being hampered and being taken in onto REAL GENERAL which was also hampered when bumped by HAPPY CENTENARY.

O Doleuze was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday, 2 January 2014 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays).

The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Saturday, 21 December 2013.

For the majority of the race, EURO SWIFTLY travelled wide and without cover.

ALWAYS SOMETHING and GOLDEN ADDICTION were sent for sampling.
