Recap by phillip woo

Plunged late to jump favourite, Step High enjoyed a lovely run in fourth and one off the rails, cornered four deep, swept to the front 150m out and held off the late burst of Expectator for a second straight win, despite the return to Class Four. Expectator made his run along the rails in midfield, bumped with Kick Serve when coming out four deep at the 250m and finished up nicely when balancing up to come out a clear second. He's caught the eye in his past two over this Valley trip and remains one to follow. Dashing Super went forward to lead at the 1,400m with Demokles parked to his outside, slowed the pace considerably mid-race, straightened narrowly on top, kicked a length clear at the 250m and kept on well to hold a placing in his initial Valley run. Early favourite Zachary bided his time fourth from the rear and two off the rails with cover from a wide gate, swung the final bend with one deeper out and was doing his best work late without menacing the placegetters. Kick Serve travelled worse than midfield and one off the rails and kept plugging away without menacing following the bump.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three: (269)-YIK YAM HANDICAP (Sec2) - Class 4 - 1650Metres

DEMOKLES began awkwardly.

LITTLE RAINFOREST was slow to begin.

From the outside barrier, YOUNG TALENT was taken across behind runners shortly after the start.

Approaching the 1500 Metres, DEMOKLES was awkwardly placed close to the heels of DASHING SUPER.

Passing the winning post on the first occasion, DEMOKLES was left racing wide and without cover and was then allowed to improve its position to race outside the lead near the 1200 Metres.

After the 1200 Metres, DOUBLE DRAGON was left racing wide and without cover.

For some distance approaching the 1000 Metres, HO WONGCHOY proved very difficult to settle and got its head up on a number of occasions when being checked away from the heels of EXPECTATOR.

For some distance approaching and passing the 1000 Metres, KICK SERVE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of STEP HIGH.

Near the 400 Metres, DOUBLE DRAGON shifted in and bumped KICK SERVE which was taken in onto EXPECTATOR which was shifting out to obtain clear running.

This resulted in both DOUBLE DRAGON and KICK SERVE becoming unbalanced.

When DOUBLE DRAGON became unbalanced, it shifted out, resulting in GOLDEN SCALPEL, which was following DOUBLE DRAGON, being awkwardly placed close to the heels of that horse.

HO WONGCHOY was held up for clear running until passing the 200 Metres.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of PERFECT MOMENT, T Angland stated that he was able to obtain a position behind the leader DASHING SUPER and PERFECT MOMENT travelled well until after entering the Straight.

He said at this time he was awkwardly placed inside the heels of DEMOKLES, however, when placed under pressure, PERFECT MOMENT did not respond to his riding and weakened noticeably over the latter part of the Straight.

He added he was not able to offer any reason for the horse's disappointing performance given that it obtained a good run throughout the race.

A veterinary inspection of PERFECT MOMENT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of LITTLE RAINFOREST immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

STEP HIGH and EXPECTATOR were sent for sampling.
