Recap by phillip woo

Favourite Akeed Mofeed made his run wore than midfield and one off the rails, rounded the final bend with two deeper upon straightening, worked to the front 200m out and stayed on gamely for the fast-finishing Ashkiyr for back-to-back wins, despite giving the runner-up 20 pounds in the weights. Ashkiyr made his run a distant second last along the rails after a sluggish break, angled off the inside to have one outside him at the 250m and finished willingly to make it a thriller at the finish. He appears to be on the right track now. Same World settled three back along the rails, was held up one off early straight, dashed between runners at the 250m to get to second at the 150m and found the top pair too good in the end. Punted late, Dan Excel eventually settled one-out, one-back after breaking a bit in the air, cornered three deep and held his ground with every chance. Real Specialist settled fourth along the rails, rolled to second one off approaching the final bend, assumed the front at the 400m and didn't have the class to continue at the 200m. Endowing made his run third from the rear and one off the rails, swung the final bend with one wider and kept on passed beaten rivals. Helene Spirit rolled to the front from Business As Usual at the 1,400m and faded out of things 200m out.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight: (368)-THE CENTENARY VASE (HANDICAP) - Hong Kong Group Three - 1800Metres

DAN EXCEL began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped AKEED MOFEED.

From the outside barrier, ENDOWING was taken across behind runners shortly after the start.

BUSINESS AS USUAL began only fairly.

Approaching the 500 Metres, ENDOWING was shifted in away from the heels of BUSINESS AS USUAL as that horse was weakening.

SAME WORLD was briefly held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight.

Throughout the race, PURE CHAMPION travelled wide and without cover.

A veterinary inspection of BUSINESS AS USUAL immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of BUSINESS AS USUAL, which weakened from the 600 Metres and finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, BUSINESS AS USUAL will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

AKEED MOFEED and ASHKIYR were sent for sampling.
