Recap by phillip woo

Favourite Speedygonzalez quickly recovered to occupy the box-seat after blundering the start and quickened well three deep to take control 150m out for back-to-back wins with a step back to sprinting. Winning Boy bided his time second from the rear along the rails, stayed near the inside upon straightening and dashed nicely to get up 50m out for a placing. Happy Homing settled midfield along the rails, angled into the clear four deep at the 300m and ran on steadily to gun down Well Done 20m out for a placing. Well Done was superior out of the gates, cornered near two lengths on top and was yielding ground 100m out. Helen's Choice bided his time at the tail of the field, swung the final bend widest out and was doing some nice work late in an improved effort with the hood removed. Make It settled midfield and one or two off the rails, swung the final bend with two wider out and peaked on his run 100m out. Well-punted late, Red Courage was cast without cover in fourth, straightened six deep and was struggling 150m out. Tomodachi couldn't find his usual spot on the lead and settled one-out, one-back, was under the pump 500m out and was gone soon after straightening.

Racing Incident Report

Race Four: (430)-SIU SAI WAN HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Metres

On arrival at the Start, Z Purton reported that SPEEDYGONZALEZ coughed after leaving the Parade Ring.

The Veterinary Officer reported that after examining SPEEDYGONZALEZ and after the necessary consultations the horse was found suitable to race.

As the start was effected, WINNING BOY lifted its front feet off the ground and then was taken across behind runners in the early stages.

SPEEDYGONZALEZ blundered badly at the start.

KING DERBY, which was leaning on the outside of its stall, began awkwardly.

From the outside barrier, HELEN'S CHOICE was taken across behind runners shortly after the start.

Approaching the 1000 Metres, TOMODACHI was steadied away from the heels of WELL DONE (C Y Ho) which shifted in when not properly clear.

C Y Ho was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground in future.

Rounding the Home Turn, KING DERBY was checked when crowded for room between ALL THE WINNERS and NOBODY BUT YOU which shifted out slightly when awkwardly placed close to the heels of TOMODACHI which was commencing to give ground.

As there was no rider error involved in this incident, no further action was taken.

For the majority of the race, both RED COURAGE and ALL THE WINNERS travelled wide and without cover.

A veterinary inspection of TOMODACHI immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of RED COURAGE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, an endoscopic examination was unable to be performed due to the horse being fractious.

SPEEDYGONZALEZ and WINNING BOY were sent for sampling.
