Recap by phillip woo

Mirage was again restless before the start, but did jump with them to settle second in the run outside the leader Shiny Day, found the front 200m out and kept on gamely to repel the challenge of Let Me Handle It for the win to score a debut win and remain unbeaten in four career starts. Let Me Handle It was never better than four deep in the run near the back, moved closer to midfield approaching the final bend, cornered with one wider out and loomed a winning chance until peaking on his run 50m out. Wah May Star took the box-seat when failing to muster enough speed to lead, stayed to the inside upon straightening, moved to second at the 150m and kept on all right to finish a clear-cut third. Shiny Day kept the pace honest on the lead, cornered a length on top and stuck on reasonably well to inject value into the Quartet. Nice Folks travelled without cover fore of midfield, straightened four deep and only held his ground under the whip. Perfect Cheers settled midfield and one off the rails, rounded the final bend outside Nice Folks and came up one paced over the final 200m. Rocket Fly sat on the fence behind midfield, peeled three-to-four deep upon straightening and couldn't really pick up when popped the question. Specked at odds, Beauty Lead settled on the back of Wah May Star, came one off at the 400m and kept on evenly under the pump.

Racing Incident Report

Race Ten: (463)-LION CITY HANDICAP - Class 2 - 1400Metres

ROCKET FLY lost its right front plate in the early stages.

After the 800 Metres, ROCKET FLY was awkwardly placed close to the heels of BEAUTY LEAD which was racing in restricted room inside WAH MAY STAR which was awkwardly placed close to the heels of MIRAGE.

KITAYA was held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight and near the 150 Metres momentarily raced tight between NICE FOLKS and ROCKET FLY which shifted out.

METALLIC STAR was held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight when obtaining tight running to the inside of BEAUTY LEAD.

In the Straight, MIRAGE got its head on the side and hung out under pressure.

When questioned regarding his riding of FABULOUS NOVEMBER, A Suborics stated that he was instructed to ride his mount positively in the early stages in an endeavour to overcome barrier 14, however, he was not to ride it aggressively as FABULOUS NOVEMBER had hung out in its races in the past and proved difficult to ride.

He said after being loaded into the barriers, FABULOUS NOVEMBER became fractious which resulted in him being momentarily dislodged from that horse.

He said as the start was effected FABULOUS NOVEMBER momentarily got its head on the side and shifted out towards the outside rail.

He said having been made aware that FABULOUS NOVEMBER hangs out in its races and as the horse had shown an inclination from the start to hang out, he was then reluctant to ride his mount along in an endeavour to take up a forward position.

He said rather he allowed his horse to work its way forward and shift in towards the main body of the field gradually.

He added after the 1100 Metres when left racing very wide he did give consideration to riding his mount along, however, at this stage FABULOUS NOVEMBER was already laying out and he felt that if he rode the horse into the first turn, it would continue to hang out which would not be in the horse's best interests.

He said for these reasons FABULOUS NOVEMBER was left racing wide and without cover in the early stages.

He said making the turn after the 800 Metres FABULOUS NOVEMBER commenced to hang out and he had to take measures to prevent the horse from shifting out and covering further ground.

He added in the Straight FABULOUS NOVEMBER gave ground.

A Suborics was advised that whilst the Stewards accepted that the horse had begun awkwardly after being fractious in the barriers, nonetheless, in their opinion, he should have made more endeavour than he did on this occasion to obtain a position closer to the rail.

He was further advised that, wherever possible, he should ride his mounts in such a manner that they do not cover unnecessary ground and therefore are able to finish off their races.

A veterinary inspection of FABULOUS NOVEMBER immediately following the race found that horse to have blood at the mouth due to a knocked tooth at its left lower jaw.

A veterinary inspection of METALLIC STAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The Stewards will question O Doleuze regarding NICE FOLKS being left racing three wide and without cover throughout the race.

WAH MAY STAR, MIRAGE and LET ME HANDLE IT were sent for sampling.

GENERAL: 1.

The Stewards today concluded an interview with Mr L Ho, the trainer of POWER COOL (P54) together with Mr Mak Tse Chik, head lad and Mr Chau Yuk Ping, stables assistant allocated to Mr Ho's stable.

The Stewards were acting on forms submitted to Stables Management advising that POWER COOL, which had suffered a second incidence of an irregular heart rhythm at the Sha Tin racemeeting on 3 November 2013, had swum on two occasions, namely 15 and 22 February 2014 when not permitted to do so by virtue of Stewards' Instruction 8(3)(i).

After hearing the evidence, the Stewards were comfortably satisfied that POWER COOL had not swum on these occasions rather it had been an oversight of Mr Mak in submitting incorrect information to Stables Management.

Accordingly, a report will be made to Stables Management regarding Mr Mak's involvement in this incident.

Mr Ho, as the person responsible for the management of his stable, was fined the sum of $5,000 for the incorrect submission of the swimming records in respect of POWER COOL.
