Recap by phillip woo

O'Halo was posted three deep without cover in third, advanced to the front 220m out and kept on gamely for back-to-back wins with a return to the dirt. Confucius Elite travelled fore of midfield and three deep with cover from the widest gate, swung the final bend with three wider out and was closing the gap with every stride late. King Derby made his run behind midfield along the rails, tracked up two-to-three deep coming to the final bend, swung the final corner four deep and finished up well to easily take third 50m out. Hoxo got no closer than four deep while travelling fourth from the rear after jumping awkwardly, swung the final bend widest out and ran on nicely to grab a First-4 spot inside the final 50m. All The Winners settled second from the rear and got going two off the rails to overhaul odds-on choice Namjong Blossoms in the final few strides for a pay slip. Namjong Blossoms mustered to lead, had just over a length on them upon straightening and was yielding ground when headed approaching the 200m. Loads of Joy was all out soon after straightening following a breeze-punching run up on the speed and was gone 150m out. Croesus sat deep near the speed without cover, turned the final bend with one wider out and was struggling 250m out.

Racing Incident Report

Race Two: (502)-SAN PO KONG HANDICAP (Sec2) - Class 4 - 1200Metres

DIAMOND ELEGANCE was withdrawn on 25.3.14 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter GOLDEN BAUHINIA (C Y Ho).

Before being allowed to race again, DIAMOND ELEGANCE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

HOXO began very awkwardly, got its head up and lost ground at the start.

KING DERBY was crowded for room at the start between LYRIC ACE which stumbled and shifted out after beginning awkwardly and NAMJONG BLOSSOMS which also began very awkwardly and shifted in.

In this incident, NAMJONG BLOSSOMS and KING DERBY became badly unbalanced.

Near the 250 Metres, LYRIC ACE was momentarily steadied away from the heels of GOLDEN BAUHINIA which shifted in after being awkwardly placed close to the heels of LOADS OF JOY.

Throughout the race, CROESUS travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground.

When questioned regarding the performance of NAMJONG BLOSSOMS, J Moreira stated that his mount was fractious in the Parade Ring and on jumping made heavy contact with KING DERBY to its inside.

He said these factors resulted in NAMJONG BLOSSOMS over-racing in the early stages, however, he was able to get the horse to travel better near the 800 Metres.

He said NAMJONG BLOSSOMS then travelled well in the middle stages, however, after being placed under pressure at the entrance to the Straight did not quicken and over the final 100 Metres weakened noticeably.

He added the manner in which NAMJONG BLOSSOMS became worked up prior to the start of the race and this being its first race since 30 October 2013, in his opinion, had some bearing on the horse's performance tonight.

A veterinary inspection of NAMJONG BLOSSOMS immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, NAMJONG BLOSSOMS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of CROESUS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

NAMJONG BLOSSOMS, O'HALO and CONFUCIUS ELITE were sent for sampling.
