Recap by phillip woo

Firming favourite Lucky Dan travelled fourth along the rails, poked his head in front three deep at the 100m and just and held off the late surge of Kissmet for the win. Kissmet settled behind midfield and three deep with cover, swung the final bend with one wider out and finished up willingly to make it interesting on the wire. Specked at long odds, Double Dragon was ridden along from a wide gate to eventually find the front at the 1,100m, opened up by two lengths at the 800m, was headed rounding the final bend by Fiery Four By Four, reclaimed the front 200m out and was nipped late for second. Demokles made his run second from the rear along the fence, stayed near the inside upon straightening and made some progress late without menacing. Fiery Four By Four settled a close third and one off the rails, worked to the front entering the straight and yielded ground 150m out. Kings Folks settled midfield and one off the rails, swung the final bend with three wider out and came up one-paced over the final 150m. Supreme Profit raveled fourth from the rear and one off the rails, straightened three deep and made a steady bid final 150m. Plunged late, Bright Star made his run third from the back and one off the paint, swung the final bend widest out and never was a factor.

Racing Incident Report

Race Four: (512)-MIRS BAY HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1600Metres

KING'S FOLKS was crowded for room at the start between KISSMET and SUPER TEAM (C Y Ho) which after initially shifting out of its own accord was then taken out further by HINYUEN PALADIN.

In this incident, SUPER TEAM lost ground.

C Y Ho reported that as a result of this incident, SUPER TEAM raced further back in the field than had been intended.

From wide barriers, BRIGHT STAR and DEMOKLES were taken across behind runners shortly after the start.

When being steadied to obtain cover after the 1400 Metres, BRIGHT STAR got its head up on a number of occasions and proved difficult to settle.

Passing the 1000 Metres, SUPER TEAM was awkwardly placed inside the heels of BRIGHT STAR.

Making the turn after the 900 Metres, SUPER TEAM shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of BRIGHT STAR which became unbalanced.

When questioned, H W Lai stated that he had been asked to ride ETERNAL GAINS in a midfield position.

He said it was anticipated that he may be able to obtain a trailing position behind KING'S FOLKS.

He said in the early stages he shifted ETERNAL GAINS across during which time KING'S FOLKS was hard ridden to maintain its position to the inside of ETERNAL GAINS.

He said passing the 1500 Metres he steadied ETERNAL GAINS in an endeavour to obtain cover behind KING'S FOLKS, however, ETERNAL GAINS commenced to over-race and proved very difficult to settle and because of this he was not able to restrain the horse to obtain a trailing position behind KING'S FOLKS as hoped.

He added as ETERNAL GAINS was having its first start at the 1600 Metres of today's race, he was reluctant to allow his mount to stride forward when left racing in a three wide position without cover passing the 1100 Metres.

He said he believed that it was in the best interests of ETERNAL GAINS to remain balanced in about a midfield position to give it the opportunity to close off the race rather than having to be ridden along in the early stages and take up a forward position which was uncustomary for the horse.

A veterinary inspection of ETERNAL GAINS immediately following the race revealed the horse to be a "roarer".

A veterinary inspection of BRIGHT STAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

LUCKY DAN and KISSMET were sent for sampling.
