Recap by phillip woo

Snitzel Kid settled in the box-seat, angled out for clear running three-to-four deep soon after straightening, hit the front 120m out and just held off Calling With Love by a whisker for an upset win. Calling With Love settled fifth and one off the rails, rounded the final bend five deep and ran on well, despite a big wayward in his action, to make it very tight on the line. Owners' Pride bided his time midfield and two off the rails, swung the final bend with three wider out and finished well to get up 30m out for a placing. Gallant Triumph settled second from the rear and two off the rails, swung the final bend with one wider out and was getting going late to secure a Quartet spot in the final few metres. Smart Ball rolled forward from a wide gate to lead one off from Swift Shadow at the 800m, cornered narrowly on top and grudgingly gave way when headed over the final 100m. Harbour Delight made his run third from the rear, rallied four deep upon straightening and was doing some fine work late to just miss a pay slip in an improved effort with a crossed nose band.

Racing Incident Report

Race Five: (578)-AUDEMARS PIGUET ROYAL OAK HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1400Metres

GRIFFINDOR, which was leaning on the outside of its stall, began awkwardly.

Shortly after the start, GREEN MANNER shifted in and bumped SMART BALL which became unbalanced.

Passing the 300 Metres and again near the 200 Metres, SWIFT SHADOW raced tight inside SMART BALL which got its head on the side and shifted in marginally.

For the majority of the race, WINNING INSTINCT travelled wide and without cover.

When questioned, A Suborics (HIGH TROJA) stated that from the outside barrier he had been instructed to shift his mount across behind runners in the early stages and obtain a position closer to the rail.

He said approaching the Home Turn he had intended to follow GALLANT TRIUMPH into the Straight as that horse, in his opinion, was a strong chance in the race.

He said despite being ridden along and slapped down the shoulder with the whip, HIGH TROJA did not quicken and for this reason he remained closer to the inside.

He added in the early part of the Straight he shifted his mount out to obtain clear running and to follow HARBOUR DELIGHT through.

He said he used the whip on HIGH TROJA near the 250 Metres, but as the horse was not a realistic chance of finishing in the placings, he reverted to riding it hands and heels in the run to the line.

A Suborics was advised that his explanation would be reported, however, he should ensure that he tests his mounts with sufficient vigour so that his riding is not open to query.

A veterinary inspection of HIGH TROJA immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

After the race, Z Purton reported that GALLANT TRIUMPH hung in in the Straight and proved difficult to ride.

A veterinary inspection of GRIFFINDOR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
