Recap by phillip woo

Charles The Great travelled three deep near the back, swung the final bend widest out and quickened brilliantly to take control 40m out for the win. Early favourite Lucky Nine settled second and one off the rails, shot to a clear lead three deep at the 300m and found one too smart in the end. Bullish Friend travelled third without cover three deep, swung the final bend with two wider out, briefly moved to second at the 150m and kept on well for a placing. Late-fancied favourite, Frederick Engels settled midfield along the rails after a slow break, came one off upon straightening and ran on steadily for a First-4 spot. El Zonda travelled second from the rear underneath Charles The Great, straightened four deep and made some ground without menacing. Best Eleven settled midfield and three deep without cover, swung the final bend with one wider out and kept up an even gallop. Straight Gold failed to let down following a handy run. He's more effective over the 1,000m. Rich Tapestry cornered narrowly on top and had nothing to offer when headed. Go Baby Go was again disappointing following a prominent run along the fence. Cerise Cherry made his run at the rear, took a bad step entering the straight and was eased down.

Racing Incident Report

Race Seven: (580)-THE SPRINT CUP - Hong Kong Group Two - 1200Metres

FREDERICK ENGELS and BULLISH FRIEND began awkwardly.

From the outside barrier, CERISE CHERRY was taken across behind runners in the early stages.

EL ZONDA got its head up on a number of occasions near the 900 Metres when awkwardly placed close to the heels of STRAIGHT GOLD.

CHARLES THE GREAT, which was following EL ZONDA, was shifted out away from the heels of that horse in consequence.

Near the 700 Metres, CHARLES THE GREAT was awkwardly placed close to the heels of BEST ELEVEN.

CERISE CHERRY broke down rounding the Home Turn and was retired out of the race.

For the majority of the race, BULLISH FRIEND travelled wide and without cover.

After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on RICH TAPESTRY at the request of Trainer C W Chang.

The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, RICH TAPESTRY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

FREDERICK ENGELS, CHARLES THE GREAT and LUCKY NINE were sent for sampling.
