Recap by phillip woo

Beauty Lead bided his time second from the rear and one off the rails from a tricky gate, swung the final bend widest out and let down willingly to get up 30m out for an upset win. Ho In One made his run fourth from the rear and one off the rails, turned the final bend with three wider out and closed off nicely to get up in the final stride for the Quinella spot. Sensationally-backed late, Winnie's Horse saved ground third from the back, stuck to the inside upon straightening, briefly hit the front 50m out and was swamped late. Business As Usual stalked the slow lead sections of Eagle Power in second, assumed the front 100m out and lost a placing close to home. Eagle Power coasted along after leading from the widest gate 1,250m out, was hard ridden hold a half-length margin at the top of the straight and grudgingly gave way final 100m in his initial run at the Valley. Chater Dream was still last at the 150m when inconvenienced 250m out but did eventually get going when balancing up. He had excuses. First Sight Love loomed a place chance after a ground-saving run in midfield, before coming up flat in the last 100m. Odds-on favourite Lucky Double Eight swung the final bend with two wider out and was only plodding when copping a bump at the 150m.

Racing Incident Report

Race Six: (608)-THE ASIAN RACING FEDERATION TROPHY (HANDICAP) - Class 2 - 1650Metres

On arrival at the Start, the tongue tie applied to FAT CHOY HONG KONG was refitted.

BEAUTY LEAD began only fairly and shortly after the start was taken across behind runners.

Shortly after the start, FAT CHOY HONG KONG and WINNIE's HORSE were crowded for room between FIRST SIGHT LOVE and LUCKY DOUBLE EIGHT, both of which shifted ground.

From a wide barrier, CHATER DREAM was taken across behind runners in the early stages.

Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, FAT CHOY HONG KONG (K C Leung) proved difficult to settle and was steadied away from the heels of LUCKY DOUBLE EIGHT for some distance.

FAT CHOY HONG KONG was then awkwardly placed close to the heels of LUCKY DOUBLE EIGHT for a considerable distance after this when continuing to travel keenly.

Passing the 900 Metres, HO IN ONE got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of FAT CHOY HONG KONG which continued to prove difficult to settle.

After the race, K C Leung stated that because of the manner in which FAT CHOY HONG KONG over-raced, the horse was therefore not able to finish off the race.

A veterinary inspection of FAT CHOY HONG KONG immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.

Making the turn after the 600 Metres, BUSINESS AS USUAL lay in and brushed the running rail.

Approaching the 500 Metres, LUCKY DOUBLE EIGHT raced tight between CLASSIC JEWELLERY and FAT CHOY HONG KONG.

Near the 450 Metres, WINNIE's HORSE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of FIRST SIGHT LOVE.

Shortly after entering the Straight, CHATER DREAM was checked when disappointed for running between CLASSIC JEWELLERY which shifted out slightly and HO IN ONE (N Callan) which shifted in.

N Callan was advised that whilst there was a contribution to this incident from CLASSIC JEWELLERY, nonetheless in similar circumstances he would be expected to make every endeavour to prevent his mounts from shifting ground.

N Callan pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the 200 Metres he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of LUCKY DOUBLE EIGHT, causing that horse to be bumped and in turn taken out onto FAT CHOY HONG KONG which was checked.

N Callan was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Friday, 6 June 2014 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays).

The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Sunday, 25 May 2014.

After the 200 Metres, FIRST SIGHT LOVE got its head on the side and shifted out under pressure, resulting in its rider having to stop riding and straighten his mount.

Near the 150 Metres, CHATER DREAM momentarily had difficulty obtaining clear running.

For the majority of the race, ROYAL PARTNER travelled wide and without cover.

After the race, Z Purton (LUCKY DOUBLE EIGHT) stated that his mount commenced to prove very difficult to settle after the 1200 Metres when being crossed by CLASSIC JEWELLERY.

He said after this LUCKY DOUBLE EIGHT did not settle and travelled too keenly.

He said it was not until after the 600 Metres that he was able to improve his position when LUCKY DOUBLE EIGHT travelled more kindly, however, by this time the horse had already worked too hard and because of this, in his opinion, was then not able to finish off its race.

A veterinary inspection of LUCKY DOUBLE EIGHT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of CLASSIC JEWELLERY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

LUCKY DOUBLE EIGHT, BEAUTY LEAD and HO IN ONE were sent for sampling.
