Recap by phillip woo

Daily Double settled fourth along the rails, advanced to the front one off at the 230m and kept up a good gallop to hold Sledge Hammer for the win. Sledge Hammer was hard ridden to hold a rail's position in midfield from a tricky gate, straightened three deep and ran on steadily to get within a neck on the wire. Tang Palace drove forward to lead, cornered a length on top and grudgingly gave way late at only his second start in two years. Croatia was hard ridden at the tail of the field, swung the final bend with two wider out and made up a good deal of ground to fill the frame in fourth. Palepale was posted without cover in third from a wide gate, straightened five deep and only plodded over the final 150m. Might And Vision travelled third from the rear and made some ground late near the inside without menacing. Brilliant Light settled behind midfield and three deep in the run, had only two behind him coming to the final bend and never was a factor. Plunged late, Goldweaver was handy in the run in fifth and one off the rails, straightened five deep and failed to lift under the whip. Favourite Fiery Raider was handy in the run with cover three deep, dropped further back coming to the final bend and was never a factor. Dragon Keeper was eased down rounding the final bend.

Racing Incident Report

Race One: (611)-THE CHAIRMEN'S DAY HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1200Metres

As the start was effected, CROATIA lifted its front feet off the ground and consequently was slow to begin.

Shortly after the start, MASSIVE and SLEDGE HAMMER became unbalanced when crowded for room between PALEPALE and MIGHT AND VISION which got its head on the side and shifted out.

Making the first turn near the 700 Metres, GOLDWEAVER was awkwardly placed close to the heels of MASSIVE.

In the early and middle stages, DRAGON KEEPER travelled wide and without cover and rounding the Home Turn was eased down.

A veterinary inspection of DRAGON KEEPER immediately following the race revealed the horse to have bled from both nostrils.

Approaching the 400 Metres, GOLDWEAVER was shifted out after being awkwardly placed close to the heels of runners in front.

Throughout the race, PALEPALE travelled wide and without cover.

MIGHT AND VISION lost its right front plate and JOLLY GOOD lost its both front plates during the running of the race.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of FIERY RAIDER, Z Purton stated that as soon as FIERY RAIDER was crossed by MASSIVE and PALEPALE after the 900 Metres, the horse immediately came off the bridle and he was required to ride it along in an endeavour to have it maintain its position.

He said after this FIERY RAIDER did not travel well for the remainder of the race and raced disappointingly.

A veterinary inspection of FIERY RAIDER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of GOLDWEAVER immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, GOLDWEAVER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

FIERY RAIDER, DAILY DOUBLE and SLEDGE HAMMER were sent for sampling.
