Recap by phillip woo

Early favourite Longwah Amber jumped well to lead from gate four, cornered a half-length on top and kept plugging away to just hold You Are The One for a maiden win at only his third start and first at the Valley. You Are The One settled second and one off the rails from an awkward gate, straightened three deep and ran on steadily to make it close at the wire. Great Run slotted fifth and one off the fence, was briefly hampered at the 400m, straightened four deep and was closing the gap late to just miss a Quinella spot. He was better suited with a return to the Valley. Firming to jump an odds-on favourite, Why Why enjoyed the box-seat run, straightened three deep and only held his ground in a disappointing first appearance at the Valley. Genuine Champion settled midfield along the rails, stayed to the inside upon straightening and only made a mild bid late. Happy Champion swung the final bend five deep and produced only an even response when asked for an effort. Unbeatable Guts had two outside him at the 200m and made some progress late.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three: (623)-GARONNE HANDICAP (Sec2) - Class 4 - 1200Metres

On jumping, ALLEY-OOP became unbalanced after shifting out and bumping VICTORY GENERAL.

After this, ALLEY-OOP and VICTORY GENERAL were taken across behind runners.

Also from a wide barrier, UNBEATABLE GUTS was taken across behind runners in the early stages.

Making the first turn after the 1100 Metres, MALAYAN GEM got its head on the side and hung out and then travelled wide and without cover until near the 600 Metres.

MY GOAL was momentarily awkwardly placed outside the heels of MALAYAN GEM when that horse shifted out making the first turn.

For some distance after the 1000 Metres, GREAT RUN got its head up when proving difficult to settle.

At the 900 Metres, UNBEATABLE GUTS shifted in and bumped VICTORY GENERAL when being steadied away from the heels of OPTIMISM.

Near the 850 Metres, OPTIMISM was awkwardly placed close to the heels of GREAT RUN which continued to race keenly.

At the 600 Metres, VICTORY GENERAL became unbalanced after shifting in of its own accord and making contact with the running rail.

Making the turn after the 600 Metres, GREAT RUN momentarily raced in restricted room between HAPPY CHAMPION and WHY WHY, both of which shifted ground marginally.

Approaching the Home Turn, MY GOAL was checked away from the heels of MALAYAN GEM which was giving ground.

Near the 200 Metres, WHY WHY was shifted to the outside of YOU ARE THE ONE after being held up for clear running behind that horse and LONGWAH AMBER.

Throughout the race, HAPPY CHAMPION travelled wide and without cover.

The performance of MALAYAN GEM, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, MALAYAN GEM will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

WHY WHY, LONGWAH AMBER and YOU ARE THE ONE were sent for sampling.
