Recap by phillip woo

Packing Llaregyb handy without cover early on, rolled forward to park outside the leader Khaya at the 900m, narrowly hit the front three deep at the 300m and out-dueled Khaya to just prevail for a third straight victory, despite a step up in class and distance. Khaya assumed the lead from Business As Usual at the 1,000m, kept up an even gallop while swinging the final bend a length on top and went down fighting when headed, despite a sharp step back in distance after a placing over 2,400m. Kabayan recovered after jumping slow to settle behind midfield along the rails, stayed to the inside upon straightening and ran on well to claim a placing 100m out. Fat Choy Hong Kong was handy along the inside, came one off at the 600m, moved to third 200m out and kept plugging away late to just hold a Quartet spot from favourite Travel Brother, who was coming on late following a deep run from behind midfield. Beauty Lead was doing some nice work late widest out after travelling second from the rear. Ho In One was left without cover worse than midfield at the 900m, had two wider out upon straightening, loomed a place chance at the 200m and peaked on his run 100m out with the step up to a mile at Sha Tin. Specked late, Enthusiasm travelled fore of midfield and one off the fence, straightened four deep and was one-paced under the whip over the final 150m.

Race Ten: (675)-CAFETERIA HANDICAP - Class 2 - 1600Metres

KABAYAN was slow to begin.

LITTLE MEN was slow to begin and then shortly after the start was taken across behind runners.

HELENE SUPER STAR began awkwardly and lost ground.

After the 1200 Metres, KHAYA proved difficult to settle.

After the 1000 Metres, HO IN ONE was left racing wide and without cover.

Making the turn after the 900 Metres, KABAYAN got its head up when proving difficult to settle and being checked away from the heels of HELENE SUPER STAR.

CRAZY BUDDIES, which was following, was inconvenienced in consequence.

ROYAL PARTNER got its head on the side and lay out rounding the Home Turn when racing tight outside FAT CHOY HONG KONG which shifted out.

Near the 250 Metres, KHAYA shifted out and brushed PACKING LLAREGYB.

Then at the 200 Metres, PACKING LLAREGYB shifted in slightly and in doing so made contact with KHAYA, causing both horses to become momentarily unbalanced.

After this, KHAYA and PACKING LLAREGYB raced tight and near the 100 Metres KHAYA shifted out and bumped PACKING LLAREGYB.

H Bowman, the rider of the 7th placed, HO IN ONE, was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out all the way to the end of the race where circumstances permit.

After the race, O Doleuze stated that LITTLE MEN did not feel comfortable in its action at any stage of the race.

A veterinary inspection of immediately LITTLE MEN following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea.

TRAVEL BROTHER, PACKING LLAREGYB and KHAYA were sent for sampling.

GENERAL: 1.

Adjourned Inquiry - 21 May 2014 Happy Valley Racemeeting- Race 4 (642) The Stewards today concluded an inquiry into the reason for LORD DRAGON falling near the 300 Metres, resulting in M Chadwick, its rider, being dislodged.

Evidence was today taken from M Chadwick, H Bowman (DEMON DEMON) and Z Purton (NEW PET).

The Stewards found that at the entrance to the Straight M Chadwick attempted to force a run to the outside of NEW PET and inside DEMON DEMON when such run did not exist, resulting in LORD DRAGON clipping the heels of NEW PET and falling.

The Stewards found that H Bowman had at all times ridden within the Rules of Racing and that he was fully entitled to maintain his position at this time.

M Chadwick was reprimanded for attempting to force a run where there was not sufficient room and advised were it to be that his actions had caused another horse or jockey to fall, it may well have been that the Stewards would issue a charge against him for having breached the Rules of Racing.

M Chadwick was further advised that whilst the Stewards encourage riders to improve their positions in races at the relevant time, nonetheless this must be done with a measure of judgement and care.
