Fly-half Patrick Fa'apale converted a penalty in the final moments as Samoa stormed back to tie Fiji 30-30 at the Pacific Nations Cup in Sacramento on Saturday (Hong Kong time).
Anthony Perenise, Paul Perez (2) and TJ Ioane each scored a second-half try for Samoa, who had defeated the USA 21-16 in their opening game last Saturday.
This year's edition of the Pacific Nations Cup is being used by the region's second-tier rugby nations as the main warm-up event before the Rugby World Cup in September-October.
And in Saturday’s other contests, the USA held on to beat Japan 23-18 and Tonga stopped Canada 28-18.
Lock Leone Nakarawa scored a first-half brace and fullback Metuisela Talebula added one more as Fiji wasted no time getting on the board before taking a 17-10 lead into half-time.
Fiji 30-30 Samoa match highlights:

Centre Gabiriele Lovobalavu scored Fiji’s fourth try soon after the break and after fly-half Ben Volavola added the extras to make it 27-10 it looked like the Fijians were off to the races.
But the Samoans had other ideas and roared back to level the scores at 27-27 with just five minutes left in regulation time.
Volavola kicked a penalty three minutes later to put Fiji back on top, setting the stage for Stanley’s penalty-kick finish as the hooter sounded.
Samoa next face winless Canada while Fiji play face Japan – both on Wednesday.
Despite playing without veteran flanker and ex-captain Todd Clever, who was released from the team for "multiple conduct violations", the Americans recovered from their opening-round loss to Samoa with a confidence-building win against Japan.AJ MacGinty nailed two penalty goals just three minutes apart to tie the contest 18-18 in the 65th minute at Bonney Field in Sacramento.
The Americans then took a decisive 23-18 lead three minutes later, forcing their way over the line for a try.
The USA got a break in the dying moments when New Zealand-born Japanese player Michael Broadhurst was slapped with a yellow card which snuffed out any hopes the Asian side had of mounting a fight back.
In the night game at Vancouver’s Swangard Stadium, Tonga rebounded from their 30-22 first-round loss to Fiji to defeat Canada as Sonatane Takulua bagged a brace.
Aaron Carpenter mustered two tries for Canada, who led 15-10 at the half, but they couldn’t withstand to late Tongan assault.
