Vancouver Sevens: Spain stun All Blacks but big guns safely through to the quarter-finals in Canada
- Spaniards score their even win over New Zealand after four losses but fail to reach the quarter-finals
- Fiji lose to hosts Canada but take their place in the last eight as USA, South Africa and England also progress

Spain beat New Zealand for the first time in their history and hosts Canada upset Fiji – but neither victors were able to qualify for the Cup quarter-finals of the Vancouver Sevens as the big names emerged safely from their pools.
A spectacular try in the final seconds by Pol Pla Vegue helped Spain score a stunning 26-24 victory over New Zealand in pool C but an earlier 17-14 loss to Australia and 26-10 defeat by France meant the Spaniards failed to finish in the top two of their group.
Canada, meanwhile, beat Fiji 26-19 in pool B but lost out to the Pacific islanders on points difference, with both teams on two wins and a defeat at the end of the round-robin phase.
Fiji earlier beat Kenya 36-12 and later defeated USA Sevens finalists Samoa 31-17 to ensure second place behind the Samoans in the group.
Spain’s coach Pablo Feijoo, hopes his players move forward after claiming a victory over one of the big guns in world sevens.
