HKRU chief executive officer Robbie McRobbie addressed the current situation in Hong Kong, in which protesters have brought the city to its knees by crippling transport networks since Monday. On Friday the HKRU announced it was cancelling all rugby games and events for the weekend.

“We begin working on the next year’s Sevens the day after the last event,” said McRobbie about the extensive planning that goes into arguably the city’s biggest event of the year. “The tournament is still five months from kick-off, but we are monitoring the situation and are in close communication with all relevant stakeholders, and our preparations are proceeding apace.”

Tickets for the 2020 tournament, from April 3-5 at Hong Kong Stadium and the 45th edition, remain at HK$1,950 for a full three-day pass, with single day ticket prices for the Friday HK$350 and the Saturday and Sunday both priced at HK$800.
