The first Po Leung Kuk Tackling Life Rugby Fun Day of the season was held last weekend at King's Park, with close to 400 boys and girls from 15 local primary schools and four education centres taking part.
This was the sixth Rugby Fun Day hosted by the Hong Kong Rugby Football Union as part of the Tackling Life rugby programme which launched three years ago and is generously supported by Macquarie Bank Foundation and the FCCHK Charity Fund Committee.
Fun Days give youngsters an opportunity to show off their new rugby skills and mix together with students from other schools and centres
The programme aims to promote a positive and healthy lifestyle among Po Leung Kuk (PLK) students and help to teach them important life skills, core values and – through summer courses at its Language Training Centres – encourage confidence in communication using English.
“The Fun Days give the youngsters an opportunity to show off their new rugby skills and mix together with students from other schools and centres,” said HKRFU coach Iris Lau.
“We also distributed the new PLK rugby shirts very kindly supplied by the FCCHK Charity Fund Committee, and each youngster got a special souvenir rugby ball to remind them of the importance of committing to a positive lifestyle.
“We are expecting even more Po Leung Kuk schools to sign-up for Tackling Life this year, and we're already planning our next big event, the PLK Touch Tournament, in January."
