WhichWay Valley took sole possession of the lead in the Paul Y Premiership standings after they thumped Borrelli Walsh Tigers 48-6 at Happy Valley yesterday.

Winless Tigers would have wished the league-wide abandonment of games in the lower divisions due to a referees' boycott had also affected their meeting, as Valley ruthlessly dominated to score a bonus-points victory. This means they now have 40 points, one ahead of title challengers Leighton Asia HKCC.

Matthew Rosslee accounted for 19 of 48 points as Valley move to the top of the Premiership standings.

Hong Kong Cricket Club also emerged triumphant yesterday, but had a harder time subduing a spirited Abacus Kowloon who went down 18-12. In the other game, Newedge Club defeated Hong Kong Scottish 28-21 for third in the standings.

All lower division games were cancelled after the Hong Kong Society of Rugby Football Union Referees protested against the sudden dismissal of its long-time performance manager of referees Bernie Fienberg by the HKRFU.

The Premiership, however, went ahead with Union officials in charge of the whistle, allowing Valley to grab the outright lead for the first time this season.

Valley cut loose after being held to 11-6 at the break, as they ran in six tries. Matt Rosslee collected 19 points, including a try while Terence Montgomery, Ben Rimene, Lee Jones, Jean-Baptiste Aldige and Thomas Lamboley also touched down.
