Women’s rugby powerhouse Gai Wu Ladies have won the Hong Kong Rugby Football Union’s Paul Y Premiership Women’s 15s title for the second year in a row.
The Happy Valley-based team lost only one of 14 league matches this season, finishing seven points above their nearest rivals in the standings.
Dedication, both on and off the field, and attitude have set us apart
“What an amazing season so far for the ladies 15,” said Gai Wu chairman Rocky Chow.
“The squad have continued on from their highly successful run last year, backing up from being double champions in 2013,” he said, referring to the team’s league and Grand Championship titles. “Dedication, both on and off the field, and attitude have set us apart.”
Gai Wu enjoyed an exceptional season, scoring 792 points while conceding only 82.
Underlining the strength of the team, five Gai Wu players – Aggie Poon Pak-yan, Cheng Tsz-ting, Emmy Chan Hoi-ping, Sham Wai-sum and Christy Cheng Ka-chi – were selected to represent Hong Kong at the Darwin Sevens in January. The Hong Kong women brought home the trophy after a significant Cup final win against the Australian Women’s Development Squad.
