Hong Kong Sevens 2022: South Africa ease past Uruguay, as France hand Great Britain drubbing
- Blitzboks run out 21-0 winners over debutants Uruguay in pool B on Friday evening at Hong Kong Stadium
- New-look Team GB receive a harsh lesson in their first Series outing as France run in four tries for a 34-0 victory
South Africa eased past debutants Uruguay 21-0 in pool B on Friday, after France gave the new-look Great Britain outfit a 34-0 drubbing at the 2022 Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens.
Selvyn Davids broke the deadlock in a cagey first half for the Blitzboks, bursting through before Ronald Brown added the extras in the seventh minute.
Davids then turned provider, offloading the ball to Shilton van Wyk who ran half the pitch to touch down in the corner.
Brown’s kick made it 14-0, and he then got in on the act himself, strolling over on the right before converting his score.

Earlier in pool B, France ran in four tries in a first-half blitz, and Great Britain – in their first World Rugby Sevens Series outing as a unit – simply had no answer.
Varian Pasquet kicked things off for France in the second minute, with Marius Domon accurate from the tee.
Domon then added two scores himself, either side of Aaron Grandidier’s try.
Grandidier got his second soon after the restart, with Domon adding the extras to make it 29-0 Grandidier completed his hat-trick in the left hand corner with just over a minute to go.
