Booze, Baywatch and blokes dressed as babies: how the 2016 Hong Kong Sevens hit new levels of excess
The Hoff strikes a chord with the revellers in the South Stand as streakers, Sonny Bill and snoozers light up So Kon Po
With the Hoff running the show, the 2016 Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens was the most electric yet, with revellers in the South Stand embracing the former Baywatch star.
There wasn’t much that didn’t happen in the stands across the weekend, with unbridled displays of love, whacky costumes and limitless enthusiasm.
Ponchos were aplenty during a brief downpour, grown men chose to dress up as babies and Trump supporters showed their true colours, while one lucky young fan went home with Sonny Bill Williams’ runners-up mug.
There was even one of the most elusive streakers to ever grace Hong Kong Stadium, as well as a poor chap who found himself taking a spell in the most unfortunate of places.
It become clear after “urinal man” set social media abuzz that the photo had in fact originated in the US, but that didn’t seem to matter to the thousands who thought the photo epitomised the Sevens like no other.
Again the Fiji fans were the most vocal and rightly so, while the home crowd had plenty to cheer about as Hong Kong made a charge to the final in the qualifying competition.
