Introduction

Hong Kong got off to the perfect start on their bid to join the World Sevens Series main event, winning both their opening matches in the Qualifier tournament.

In the main event, defending champions Fiji, series leaders South Africa, and in-form England all got off to winning starts.

On a day that saw a number of landmarks and records broken, England's Dan Norton became the World Sevens Series all-time top tryscorer with No.245 in their win over South Korea.

Hong Kong beat Namibia 22-7 and Sri Lanka 31-5 and face a showdown on Saturday morning against Chile, who also won both their games to see who tops the group.
And in the women's tournament, Japan beat South Africa in the final to win a place on the main tour next season.
