Former captain Mark Wright will be included in the Hong Kong men's rugby sevens Asian Games squad that will be announced on Monday.

The Japan-based Wright, who last played for Hong Kong at sevens when he led the team to a silver medal at the last Asian Games in Guangzhou four years ago, has been cleared by his club Toyota Shokki Shuttles to play.

"He is expected to join the team a week on Monday," said Dai Rees, Hong Kong Rugby Football Union head of technical development and performance.

Wright will bring much-needed experience to the forwards, as young guns Michael Coverdale and Jack Capon only made their debuts last month, albeit making an instant impact.

Head coach Gareth Baber is expected to name 13 players for the September 30 -October 2 tournament in Incheon, leaving one final place to be decided later. Only 12 players can be picked, but there are injury doubts over Tsang Hing-hung and Keith Robertson.

Hong Kong are in a preliminary pool with China, the Philippines and Pakistan. Organisers will take the top eight teams after the first day's competition and seed them one to eight on the first-day results for the second day of knockout competition.

"The second day will be a bit of a lottery," said Rees.
