Jack Wilshere is back in the England squad for the friendly next week against Sweden after being out of contention since last year because of various injuries.

The Arsenal midfielder was called up Thursday despite club manager Arsene Wenger urging caution about how the midfielder is used because he has only just returned to action.

Although Wenger said the “ideal solution” would be for Wilshere not to play for Roy Hodgson’s side against Sweden, an agreement had now been reached between club and country.

“I had Roy Hodgson on the phone, we found a good understanding and a good compromise,” Wenger said Thursday during a visit with Wilshere to London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital. “What helps is that he is not playing over the weekend because he is suspended, of course [after getting sent off against Manchester United]. He will have a little breather.”

Although Wilshere’s last England appearance was against Switzerland in June last year, he is seen as vital to England’s hopes of qualifying and progressing well at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

“Roy wants him in the group to connect the game with the players,” Wenger said.

Captain Steven Gerrard is meanwhile due to make his 100th England appearance in Stockholm on Wednesday.
