Everton defender John Stones will not be sold to Premier League rivals Chelsea despite handing in a formal transfer request ahead of the looming transfer deadline, according to Everton deputy chairman Jon Woods.
I won't sell him, Bill won't sell him, there's a handful of days to go

Woods was asked directly by an Everton supporter whether the club would sell in the face of continued interest from Premier League champions Chelsea. The director was filmed replying: "I won't sell him, Bill [Kenwright, the Everton chairman] won't sell him, there's a handful of days to go."

The video, believed to have been recorded following Everton's 2-0 defeat against Manchester City last Saturday, could ease the concerns of some Everton supporters who fear the lure of Chelsea and the millions being touted in transfer fees too much of a temptation for both the player and the club.

England defender Stones, signed from Barnsley for £3 million (HK$36.4 million) in 2013, has become one of the hottest young properties in English football and Everton are reported to have already rebuffed bids in the region of £30 million.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez is rumoured to be identifying potential replacements for the 21-year-old should a Chelsea bid be accepted by the club.

The transfer window closes at 6pm (GMT) on September 1.
