Patrick Vieira swaps Manchester for New York as he becomes new manager at Major League Soccer's NYCFC
Former Arsenal midfielder takes over at nascent Major League Soccer club who disappointed in debut campaign

Former France international Patrick Vieira has joined New York City FC as head coach on a three-year deal from parent club Manchester City, it was announced Monday.
Patrick’s ability, vision and the respect in which he is held by everyone who works with him, speaks volumes for his character and capacity to succeed
Vieira, who had been head of Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad and had been talked of as a possible candidate to take the top job at the Etihad, replaces sacked coach Jason Kreis.
It follows a disappointing season in the MLS for New York City, who invested heavily in star names such as Frank Lampard and Andrea Pirlo yet failed to make the postseason play-offs.
“Patrick’s ability, vision and the respect in which he is held by everyone who works with him, speaks volumes for his character and capacity to succeed,” New York City FC President Tom Glick said.
“I am excited to work with him and I know the energy he will bring to the role will have a hugely positive impact across the Club.”
