Liverpool hero Steven Gerrard stars in Sydney exhibition win over local legends

A Liverpool Legends football team led by Steven Gerrard downed an Australian Legends team 4-0 in an exhibition game before 40,000 fans in Sydney on Thursday.

Gerrard, 35, who is currently in his off-season with the LA Galaxy in the United States MLS, played a role in two of the goals.

He set up Luis Garcia’s second goal and his assist for Ian Rush, Liverpool’s greatest goalscorer, was well received by the large number of Liverpool fans in the Sydney Olympic stadium.

Gerrard was also pivotal in the lead-up to the fourth goal, netted by John Aldridge, deep into second- half stoppage time.

Other Liverpool stars on the pitch included Robbie Fowler, John Arne Riise and Jamie Carragher, while the squad was prepared by former France coach Gerard Houllier.
