Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal to fire Real Madrid into the Champions League last 16 made it six seasons in a row that he has scored at least 40 goals for the team – yet fans still booed him at the Bernabeu during the 2-0 win over Roma.
Ronaldo also laid on the second for James Rodriguez, but apparently that wasn’t good enough for the Real ‘supporters’
Some sections of the Bernabeu crowd voiced their displeasure at the club’s all-time leading scorer because he also missed a few scoring chances as Real reached the quarter-finals with a 4-0 aggregate victory.
“I would tell the fans to think a little first,” blasted teammate Sergio Ramos. “I respect them but when things don’t go well they should support their players because we all want the best for Real Madrid.

“He’s a historic player for Real Madrid, he keeps proving that year after year, look at what he’s achieved.
“When the fans at the Bernabeu boo you it is because they want to transmit their demands to you, they want to push us and see the best performance from us,” added Ramos.

Real coach Zinedine Zidane said the booing would simply spur Ronaldo on.
“It will only motivate him,” Zidane said. “The important thing is that every time Cristiano is on the pitch he wants to score and he keeps doing it.”
Ronaldo netted in the 64th minute before setting up the second goal of the night for James Rodriguez four minutes later.

Earlier this month Zidane pleaded for the harmony in the dressing room after Ronaldo said that if all his team mates were at his level, Real would be top of La Liga instead of third. Ronaldo said later that he had been misinterpreted. 
Roma were left to rue a host of missed chances. Edin Dzeko and Mohamed Salah were the culprits in front of goal for the visitors before two goals in four second-half minutes ensured Madrid’s first win in a two-legged tie over Italian opposition in Europe for 29 years.
Ronaldo swept home Lucas Vazquez’s cross 26 minutes from time before turning provider for Rodriguez.
“I am happy with the way we attacked and I think defensively we improved a lot in the second-half,” said Zidane.
“Everyone dreams of winning the Champions League and we are in the hunt.”
Roma coach Luciano Spalletti criticised his side’s mental strength after letting Madrid off the hook.
“We have to point out that we had more chances than them and if we’d taken them then the psychology of the game changes,” said Spalletti.
“Right now on a mental level perhaps we are a bit fragile. It’s a big game, big games make us nervous and we have to change this.”
