The bottom half of the draw is stacked with traditional powerhouses - Germany, Italy, Spain, France, England - while the top half is quite the opposite, the star power of Cristiano Ronaldo with Portugal notwithstanding.
On Wednesday, minnows Iceland sealed their place with a famous 2-1 win over Austria, while Portugal scraped through in third place with a Cristiano Ronaldo-inspired 3-3 draw against Hungary.
A sensational late winner from Robbie Brady gave Ireland the win they needed to go through as one of the four best third-placed teams, while Radja Nainggolan’s effort was enough to seal second place for Belgium and eliminate Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s Sweden.
The knockout stage kicks off on Saturday night, Hong Kong time.
