Mikel becomes latest Chelsea player to sign up for the Chinese Super League revolution
Former Chelsea midfielder becomes the latest Premier League player to complete a switch to China after signing for Tianjin Teda
Former Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi has become the latest Premier League player to complete a switch to the Chinese Super League after signing for Tianjin Teda following protracted negotiations that ended with the Nigerian putting pen to paper on a reported three-year deal worth an estimated £140,000 per week (HK$1.34 million).
The 29-year-old appeared to confirm the move by publishing a lengthy letter from a Chelsea fan on his Twitter account in which the fan thanked him for his time at the club.
Mikel joins a growing list of former Chelsea stars who have made big-money moves to China with Oscar recently completing a £52 million transfer to Shanghai SIPG after Brazilian midfielder Ramires made the move to China last season.
Mikel spent 11 years at Chelsea but had been frozen out of the side since new manager Antonio Conte’s arrival in the summer.
