Ryan Giggs, Gary and Phil Neville, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt, some of the most successful footballers in Manchester United’s history, took the MTR to a five-a-side game in Hong Kong.

As well as meeting local fans from the Hong Kong Manchester United Supporters’ Club, they met some of the city’s own most popular sportsmen – its jockeys.

The quintet are in town on a promotional trip, plugging a new app and local broadcaster Now TV’s football coverage for next season.

Manchester football journalist Andy Mitten posted a pic of the ex-pros on Twitter that quickly went viral.

Along with David Beckham, the Class of 92 won the lot with United in the 90s and early 2000s, after coming through the ranks together as schoolboys.

And Gary Neville showed their sense of humour hasn’t changed much since they were kids as he had his mates cracking up on the MTR, disrupting an attempt to make a promo video by throwing a ball into the presenter’s face.

The five players weren’t quite mingling with the common man, however, as they had a carriage to themselves.

A video of them getting mobbed by autograph hunters in the station after getting off the train perhaps showed why.

The former stars also met some of Hong Kong’s top jockeys Zac Purton, Umberto Rispoli and Neil Callan.

Callan – a dedicated Liverpool fan – posted a pic of the players with his son Henry, plus Purton and Rispoli, at the Hong Kong Club.

Butt, who played for a spell at Hong Kong side South China, could have given his former teammates the guided tour.

Local fans were delighted to meet their heroes:

The players were presented with t-shirts featuring caricatures of themselves, although it’s fair to say they didn’t seem too impressed:
