The internet waited with bated breath on Tuesday for an announcement regarding Usain Bolt after the Olympic champion and world record holder teased fans by saying he had “signed for a football team” .

Bolt has long made known his desire to play professional football and it was earlier revealed he will train with German Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund next month.

The 31-year-old, who retired from the track last year, has also suggested that he could play in the English Premier League for Manchester United, the team that the Jamaican supports.

Speculation reached fever pitch that the Jamaican sprint superstar would be joining South African side Mamelodi Sundowns after they tweeted Bolt wearing their training kit.

It turns out that the fastest man on the planet was not turning pro, though.

Instead his “signing” was for Unicef to take part in their Soccer Aid pro-celebrity charity match at Manchester United’s Old Trafford on June 10.

Bolt will play for a World XI against an England team captained by Robbie Williams.

Needless to say, Bolt’s fans were left disappointed that he was not signing a first pro contract.

Meanwhile in actual football, Heilonjiang Lava Spring of China League One have signed Brazilian midfielder Victor Bolt.

The 30-year-old, also known as Victor Lemos, arrives in Harbin from Brazilian side Goias ahead of the new season which begins on March 10, a week after the Chinese Super League.

Heilongjiang are newly promoted to League One after winning the League Two play-offs last season.

The Chinese transfer window ends at midnight.
