France’s number two seed Marion Bartoli and sixth-seeded Peng Shuai of China advanced to the second round of the Shenzhen Open after winning their opening matches on Monday.
The world ranked number 11 Bartoli had an easy time knocking off Hong Kong’s Chan Wing-Yau 6-1, 6-0 in just over an hour, dashing the hopes of the wild card draw who was playing in front of many fans from the nearby former colony.
Meanwhile,Peng made quick work of British qualifier Anne Keothavong, knocking her rival out with a 6-4, 6-0 win.

Peng was not the only home nation player to shine as compatriot Duan Yingying beat Kimiko Date-Krumm from Japan 7-6, 7-5, also booking herself a place in the second round that begins on Tuesday.
